Understandable as you also couldn't get why Snaking is bad for Mario Kart even when it was perfectly explained to you. That's right I went there! Come at me bro! >:D As for Animal Crossing, I think the simplest way to describe it is to call it a collection game. There's tons of things to get, tons of things to build, tons of things to customize in tons of ways, and tons of things to do at any given time. There's also no rules or objectives (unless you want there to be), and no winning or losing. You're the game's boss so you have the freedom to do what you want, when you want, how you want. Anyone can pick up the game and get right into it with it's no brainer controls n gameplay. Much more too it than that but I'm lazy atm. :L |
Forget snaking. That was weeks ago.

Well, my argument against the people that say that is the following: How many copies of DKCR were sold? 6 million. How many copies of MP1 were sold? 2.8 million. MP2 and MP3 combined sold around 3 million. |
THANK YOU! It blows my mind that people don't get this! Nintendo isn't going to jumpstart Wii U sales with a game that caters to around a million of it's fans. They need to bring out the multi-million selling titles first, and they know it. I like Metroid as much as the next person, but I want to bang my head against the wall when people say they feel betrayed that Tropical Freeze was revealed instead of a Metroid game. And, Tropical Freeze looks awesome in my opinion.

Exactly! It's not that hard to understand.

also, retro studios hired lot's of people in the past years. I'm sure it wasn't donkey kong tf alone they developed in the past 3 years with all that people. they must be working on two projects and dk is simply the one releasing first.
I think DK:TF actually took a significant amount of effort. It's quite beautiful and the changing camera angles mean that the worlds really had to be full rendered in 3D. It's just a litte boring, concept-wise.
I think that's the real gripe with Nintendo at the moment. It's not that the games aren't good, just not all that original or ground-breaking. Mario3DW is every bit as nice looking as Galaxy, it just has a locked camera (though you can free camera as well) and no space backgrounds or flipping gravity. But it's also more retro and less fresh. Compared to the Wii launch with Wii Sports which was something completely new, and Mario Galaxy that was like watching nothing else, the roster feels a bit stale.
I don't think the games are lazy effort-wise, but you can make the argument that NSMBU, NL, DK:TF, Z:WWHD and SM3DW are all direct sequels to previous efforts without a big change in theme or style. So you could say that Nintendo is being creatively lazy. Even the title most people are happy about, MK8, is still a sequel.
I actually think SM3DW is pretty creative when compared to Galaxy in terms of gameplay. It brings the polish of 2D gameplay into the 3D world. Multiplayer is a huge step forward. But it is essentially lacking in a theme or "story" from what we have seen so far. And its similarity to the 3DS game really makes it seem like a step backward.
