Forums - Nintendo - Wii U games made by Nintendo are lazy? Really?

I'm sure DKC:TF will look and play great. I'm just saying, compared to their previous games, less effort was put into pushing its graphics. Some might call  that a type of laziness.

This is just my theory, but I think all Nintendo devs are suffering from the difficulties of changing hardware. What I mean by is that is that all Nintendo internal developers were used to SD and the Wii programming, but now they have to deal with HD and a different architecture, something they don't have much (if any) experience. I as a programmer can tell how sometimes changing programming platforms can be a pain in the ass.

Retro is an interesting case though, they hired a lot of people from Vigil, Naughty Dog, etc, which already had experience in HD coding and the PS360 programming. So I don't know what their excuse is, but is not like all the developers inside Retro came from those companies, most of them were already there when making the first DKC.

This can obviously change by testing the hardware to no end, but this takes A LOT of time, time that Nintendo doesn't really have if they want to boost the Wii U sales, and that's why we are seeing "lazy" graphics. Now that various first party devs have more experience with the console they can start making better looking games; and this is probably the reason why Zelda will take a lot of time to make. Getting used to the new hardware is what takes the most time out of developers (unless is PC of course).

I don't get why people like Animal Crossing, but hey, that is just me.

I got it via "So many games" a few days ago. I also don't get it. It is supposed to be very relaxing, maybe my life just isn't stressful enough?

There are three main reasons why someone doesn't like Animal Crossing (excluding the obvious "You hate Nintendo, period."):

1) You aren't a kid and thus don't play anything you can get your hands on.
2) You aren't female.
3) You aren't stoned.

Check, Check, Check.

SSB4 will be the best Animal Crossing game for me :D

For me Smash Bros 4 and Mario Kart 8. Can't wait to play those online. Specially since the Wii U's online is God compared to what the Wii had to offer.

Let's not forget that the next Zelda is changing the conventions.  The Zelda studio must be really busy right now.

So, you predict the villager will be in MK8. That's a bold prediction :P

Imagine The Villager  in a Double Dash like Mario Kart game where he has specific items.

there's plenty of exageration there. nintendoland, mario 3d world, mario kart, X, those games all look amazing, it's a much smoother transition than other devs did.

The point isn't if they look nice or not, is the fact that they are not pushing the hardware.

Compare to the Wii the change is huge, but compare to the PS360 there's nothing really to brag about (except for X).

given it's early in the wii u lifetime I think they're pushing what they can. wii's hardware was already figured from the very beggining since it was an overclocked gamecube.

Compare it to PS360 games from 05-07, not 2011-13.

Understandable as you also couldn't get why Snaking is bad for Mario Kart even when it was perfectly explained to you. That's right I went there! Come at me bro! >:D

As for Animal Crossing, I think the simplest way to describe it is to call it a collection game. There's tons of things to get, tons of things to build, tons of things to customize in tons of ways, and tons of things to do at any given time. There's also no rules or objectives (unless you want there to be), and no winning or losing. You're the game's boss so you have the freedom to do what you want, when you want, how you want. Anyone can pick up the game and get right into it with it's no brainer controls n gameplay. Much more too it than that but I'm lazy atm. :L
