Forums - Gaming - Did Sony make a mistake by bringing GT6, TLoU, GoW:A and Beyond to PS3, and not PS4 this year?

Should Sony have brought 2013's exclusives to PS4 instead of PS3?

Yes, PS4 needs them to compete with Xbone. 21 9.29%

Maybe, should have split ... 48 21.24%

No, it was smarter releasing them on PS3. 136 60.18%

I don't know. 9 3.98%

I want to see the results. 12 5.31%

Total:226

At least for me, it sends a message that Sony had the desire to support their home console the longest out of the three major console competitors, so I personally do not think it was a mistake. Deciding to purchase a next-gen console is an investment, and one of the major factors that comes into play during that decision is determining how long that platform will be supported, and I imagine that there are many current PS3 owners willing to invest in a PS4 because Sony has shown that that they're still supporting their current console this late in the generation.

Since the production pipeline for PS4 games has been shortened from 6-12 to 1-2 months (in terms of actually getting a build runnable on the system) I don't we will have to wait 3 years for cycles on some of these games. Heck a studio the size of Treyarch could probably produce a game a year if they wanted.

I will permaban myself if the game releases in 2014.

in reference to KH3 release date

The PS4 hasn't even be released yet. Sony announced maybe 5 first party games for it. It will get dozens of strong first party titles in its lifetime no need to worry, The Vita on the other hand...

they are showing they will still support the ps3, it was a clever move people will still want to buy a ps3 sony making profit from it

What topic asks... Do you guys think Sony should have saved up all these PS3 games for the PS4?

God of War Ascension
Gran Turismo 6
The Last of Us
Beyond

And announced them all that very day at E3? Do you guys think Sony would have "beaten" MS in terms of games at E3 (some people consider MS won E3 in terms of games/exclusives because the Xbone had more)?

In short: do you think Sony made a mistake by bringing all these big hitters to PS3, instead of saving them for PS4?

PS4 sure lacks exclusives as of now, but releasing as many AA exclusive on PS3 was smart as well.

Especially if they plan on releasing a yet slimmer and cheaper PS3 that i compatible with futur PS4 technologies (mainly, big size libraries, for PS3 platinums games or to transfer them to PS4).

nah.. Why abandon the ps3 when it just turned profit?
But i do agree that GoW:A would've been better on the vita.

GoW:A? No.
TLoU? No.
B:TS? No.
GT6? Hell yes.

Santa Monica is big enough to work on two games and so is Naugthy Dog. It shouldn't be any problem for them to release a big title in 2014. Quantic Dream isn't all that important, so it doesn't matter that their PS4 game most likely won't come out before 2015.

Polyphony Digital is another story though. Not only do they take years to finish a single game, they are also responsible for Sony's biggest IP. Shifting the first full PS4 Gran Turismo into 2016 isn't smart at all when third parties are going to push cross-generation multiplatform games for the next couple of years. GT would accelerate PS4 adoption rates and thus PS+ subscriptions as well. Nevermind that GT6 on PS3 is pretty much redundant as it doesn't add any major features.

Like I said... I agree with this arguments about GT6 but there is no game ready for PS4... if they not launch GT6 for PS3 now they will only launch for PS4 in 2015 or so.

GT6 on PS4 launch is an utopia since beggining.

Ans GT6 add a lot of new features ... in fact add more features than any next-gen racing showed til now.

The Last of Us, yes.
GT6, no.
God of War, yes.
Beyond, no.

EDITED

4 ≈ One

PS4 actually competes VERY WELL with the XBOX ONE, so the option on the poll is ridiculous
sorry I had to say it...
and about the question...

The Last of Us? No, Naughty Dog needs to create a whole new franchise for the PS4, like they did with Crash Bandicoot, Jak and Uncharted, The Last of Us looks more like a "look what we do while we wait for the new console" game.

Gran Turismo 6... Yes, it is one of the strongest franchises, and every new console of Sony should start with a Gran Turismo game, but now that they will release GT6 in the last year of this generation, I don't expect to see any Gran Turismo at least for the next 4 years.

God of War: Ascension? No, just no

Beyond, no.

Last of us sold near 2 million in two weeks if you include digital sales. I hope PS4 never get GT6, upgraded version is not enough. Better to spend time on GT7 and release in 2015 fall.
