JOURNEY BECOMES PROFITABLE; THATGAMECOMPANY STARTS RECEIVING ROYALTIES.

Journey has become profitable according to thatgamecompany, the studio that created the game. The game was in development for over three years and studio boss Jenova Chen had earlier said that they were almost facing bankruptcy but Sony had faith in them and kept funding them.

The game has finally broke even and the critical success might have helped as well. Journey is widely regarded as one of the best games on PSN and a must play if you own a PS3.

Im surprised it took so long.

Low sales or just a really, really high budget?

I read an article stating it was profitable like 5 months ago. Unless it wasn't, IDK.

It could be neither.

Considering that Videogames is following the blockbuster market I wouldn't be shocked if they were taking a cue from hollywood bookeeping as well.

Hollywood is notorius for stretching profitability so that actors get paid residuals later or don't get paid.

For Example, Return of the Jedi has never turned a profit according to Lucasfilms.

There are all kinds of tricks that could be pulled accoutning wise.

Good thing they had flower to keep them running.

This!

It's quite a common thing really. Truth is everyone's probably made quite a bit off it already.

Well I bought the digital and the physical release, I did my part.

They didn't, the company pretty much dissolved after their 6 year contract with Sony was up without anything lined up to keep them going.
