Wii U could very well go on to sell more lifetime than the Gamecube, giving the game a bigger audience to sell to in the long run. At any rate, I don't think it'll do 2m, I predicted 1.2m. |
I agree with 1.2m but that's a max for me.

100K seems like a pretty good start considering the low Wii U sales. Pikmin (1) debuted with similar #'s and sold over 500K in the end. Pikmin normally has decent longevity in Japan. Another reason why I see potential in Pikmin is that unlike Metroid or Fire Emblem, Pikmin has that classic Nintendo charm. Metroid & FE get high reviews and are considered to be great high quality games but lack Nintendo style. (Seems to be why people like them) Pikmin has Nintendo written all over it.

Actually, I think quite the opposite. Metroid Prime, like Zelda, is full of puzzles and defined its own genre (First Person Adventure). It has unique Boss battles which involve more then just straight shooting, and many of Samus' power ups are just as silly as Mario or Links. The game is more closely comparable to a Zelda or Mario game then Halo.

Why would Pikmin 3 outsell Pikmin 1? Is the franchise any bigger now than it used to be? It skipped a generation and the Wii U isn't really in a healthy spot. Besides there are many games to steal Pikmin 3's parade this Holiday. |
I think Pikmin has grown more because more people seem to have tried Pikmin since 2004. Brawl, Nintendo Land, and the NPC games should help get its name recognized as well. Pikmin (1) did fine up against Luigi & Melee in 2001 so Pikmin 3 could compete a bit this Holiday. Plus, it will be the 1st big Wii U release since launch. Miyamoto seems to be very excited about the game too, I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo actually decides to push it. Pikmin always got high reviews which should also help. All in all, I don't see why Pikmin 3 can't outsell the first 2.

I was talking more about characters and feel of the game. Pikmin is very Nintendo IMO but I respect your opinion good sir.
Pikmin 3 should do pretty well. It's gotten far more media hype than 1 or 2 combined. And it's also being promoted by Nintendo land. It is one of the most popular mini games of Nintendo Land.
Pikmin is a niche genre in the first place.
Advertised well it can do well and I think it will do better than pikmin2.

Nintendo has some of the best selling series every Gen even when their systems fail to sell very well. They have many commonly known IP's that sell a lot (Mario, DK, Pokemon, Animal Crossing, Smash Bros, Zelda) and others that sell less. (Kirby, Yoshi) Pikmin falls into the category of series that aren't well known and don't sell a lot along with Metroid, StarFox, F-Zero, and Fire Emblem. The thing is, I feel that out of all of Nintendo's series, Pikmin is one of the ones that Nintendo really tries to push and do everything they can with quality-wise. It just seems to be as polished and detailed as a 3D Mario, or Zelda. It is also a series that Miyamoto had come up with. Yet, Pikmin gets neglected as a main Nintendo series. Can Pikmin 3 bring the sales to a new high? Can Pikmin eventually get to Zelda sales? I say that Pikmin 3 looks to be what Miyamoto had Envisioned all along and if they market it well, Pikmin 3 could easily surpass the sales of the 1st 2 games. It might take a while due to Wii U's low sales thus far but I think it'll have longevity and be one of the best games on Wii U when all is said and done which will heighten sales. What do you guys think? |
Let's see. Olimar was in Brawl and there is a Pikmin mini game in Nintendo Land. That alone is worth 500k-1 million more potential buyers than if none of that would have happened.

well TLoU didn't stop Animal Crossing, so I don't think other games will steal some sales from Pikmin, but 1,2~1,6mil is ok for me
I think Pikmin 3 will do at least 500k within the first couple months after release, but with the right marketing it could do even better.
Nice to see more Pikmin 3 threads popping up! Granted, they're more about sales than the actual game itself, but it's better than nothing. Anywho, how well did the remakes on the Wii sell? They're the most recently released Pikmin games so they might be a good indicator as to how well Pikmin 3 will do. Hmm, actually maybe not due to the massive difference between the number of Wiis and Wii Us sold, which is what, 100m to 4m respectively? Might be better to go by Gamecube sales afterall hehe.

I meant to say that there are other Wii U games from Nintendo to steal Pikmin 3's spotlight (mainly Super Mario 3D World which Nintendo is going to prioritize this Holiday).
