Compare Nintendo's treatment of the Wii about the last 1/3 of its life and MS' treatment of the 360 in the last 3-4 years to Sony's treatment of the Vita, I'd the Vita fairs better.

Let's look at it another way, are we not allowed to blame consumers if they rush out enmass to buy a game/product we all know to be technically and critically bad. Whose fault is that?

Are you saying that the Vita has entered the last 1/3 of it's life already?

No...

The point I was obviously making is that Sony is still supporting it contrary to what everyone says.

But, you compared Sony's treatment of the Vita as only being better than how it's competitors treat systems they are in the process of phasing out.

Around the Network

It depends on whether or not you consider the Vita and 3DS to be true competitors.

If you do believe that those two consoles are competing for the same market, at least in part, then you believe that the 3DS could possibly be taking potential customers away from the Vita. It's not hard to see why people would pick the 3DS over the Vita.

If you don't believe they're competing for the same market, then what exactly is the Vita's competition?

I'm sorry, but aside from Tearaway and Killzone what games made by Sony will be hitting the Vita in the next 12 months? You compare it to the Wii, but that had Skyward Sword, Xenoblade, Donkey Kong and Wii Party. And the Wii U, which many claim is in the same scenario, has Mario, Zelda, Wii Party, Wii Fit, Donkey Kong, Mario Kart, Smash Bros, Pikmin and more in the same timeframe. That is support, something the PS3 is also seeing. But why not the Vita?

Because Sony doesn't care about the Vita.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Freedom Wars.  Invizimals: The Alliance.  Destiny of Spirits.

(I don't intend to get involved in this debate, I'm just pointing out the ones you missed).

Thanks, I knew there were some I'd missed...

But sadly they don't look like "big" games looking at them, maybe 150-200k each. Is that what the Vita needs?

And now Ive said all Im going to on this topic.

This thread is pretty much what I'm talking about.
There are games and value all over the place but people are still finding things to complain about.

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

Xbox One: What are you doing Dave?

Well I don't know what I can tell you. I was never going to own a Vita.

I can tell you that I have two friends who each bought a Vita. They played Gravity Rush, Persona, Assassin's Creed, maybe something or other else. Then they traded their Vitas in. There was no reason to keep them. This was before Soul Sacrifice was released, and even now, neither of them regret getting rid of their Vita, because that's the only recently-released or upcoming game either of them care about.

I also have a couple of other friends who want to want a Vita. They want to want one really bad. They each see a couple of games they care about, but not enough.

All four of these friends of mine own a 3DS. Kid Icarus, Kingdom Hearts, Fire Emblem, Monster Hunter -- these are the games they bought a new console for. But more important than those are they games they're keeping their console for. Games like Shin Megami Tensei IV, Pokémon X&Y, the new Zelda, Ace Attorney 5, Super Smash Bros, even weird digital shit like Attack of the Friday Monsters.

When they already have all of this to look forward to, the Vita doesn't look appealing enough to justify a $200+ purchase. Apparently, it doesn't even look appealing enough to justify holding onto that $200+ purchase.

When the Vita was announced, people lawded it for having a good price and a great batch of games during release I seem to recall people saying it had the most launch titles since ever.

So to recap.

Nice hardware

good price

quantity of games

So...what happened?

Consumers chose not to buy it. Makers of products can only do so much, if consumers choose not to buy something, there's little that's going to change that.

Vita got a lot of praise from forum-dwellers, yes, but you have to realise that we're talking about a minority here. Even if most of those praising the system bought it, it wouldn't translate into that many sales.

The price was only good when the Vita and the 3DS cost the same, but then the 3DS got a price cut and all of a sudden $250 weren't that good of a price anymore. Plus, you have to factor in the expensive memory cards.

And the system certainly had a lot of games at launch but it lacked system sellers. Having a lot of games won't mean much if the target audiences of those games are small.

So no, it's not the consumers fault that Vita is where it is. If you should blame anyone you should blame Sony for not putting in more effort into taking the system out of the niche cave it currently resides in (assuming that's what we want here).

Can I quote the last two paragraphs of your post whenever there will be a discussion about Wii U sales and lack of 3rd party support? I'll give you credit.

Cause I've got to admit you nailed it here and it perfectly fits/will fit Wii U position

So it is happening...PS4 preorder.

Greatness Awaits!

But games like Mario Kart, Smash Bros. etc which are 10 million sellers, as well as a fair few multi-million sellers means it won't be the same for long.

I'm happy with my 3DS.  I'm not going to spend an additional $300 (Vita + memory Card) not including cost of games to have a second handheld.  I also don't buy all 3 consoles anymore, because I can't justify spending over $1,000 just on hardware to play video games.  The cost of my hobby has not been rising in proportion to my salary (in my specific case, I'm actually making less now than I was at the start of the previous video game generation - lost my management position and had to change work fields.)  For the same reason that I bought XBox 360 and Wii but skipped PS3 last gen, I already have a Wii U and might get a PS4 but skip XBox 1 this gen.  For me, it is priorities when it comes to finances.  I'm not unhappy with the games I have for 3DS, therefore I don't have a need to shell out over $300 for a secondary handheld.
