I have a confession to make. I, too, only pretend to care about consumer rights when that lets me be a Concerned Citizen who can subtly bash rival consoles.

In all honesty, I enjoy paying annually to play online and unlock other features of my multi-media console: it keeps out the riff-raff (can you imagine how bad voice chat would be without it?!), and it ensures that the company has enough money to bring me useful, exclusive content not available on other (non-paying) consoles, such as Netflix and Hulu. Which is great, because lately I rarely feel the need to play videogames on my videogame console, y'know?

I'm also okay with used games being heavily restricted, if not de facto barred. I mean, yeah, it'd be way better if that wasn't the case and all, sure, but once you stop to think about it, the trade off is more than worth it. Used games deprive the publisher out of its hard earned money, and without that money how can developers afford to hire all those artists, writers, actors, and animators to deliver those great cinematic experiences? Publicly I'll continue to say stupid things like "other entertainment industries have never restricted used goods," but I know the flaws in those arguments; the book, music, and movie businesses all bring in more annual revenue than videogames, by like a lot, and moreover you can find new ways to make money off of each of those as time goes on. Games, on the other hand? You have all of a month to make all your money, and you can not make a dime on them after that. The comparison is like saying that you can compare tangible qualities between a Granny Smith apple to a Red Delicious apple; I know it's stupid, and I ask now for forgiveness, but I have an irresistible impulse to keep doing it. As it is, used gaming and piracy are largely indistinguishable: if we can deride one, why would we cheer the other?

It's the same moral dishonesty that causes me to lie and say consumer rights are a good thing when I know that effectively banning used games is increasingly a necessity. I was never able to feel an emotional reaction to any game prior to this generation. I confess it's only a tepid reaction right now, but like Molyneaux said that's because the tech has been keeping the artists in gaming back. But I know that when I've finished the next Metal Gear, and the half-hour scene of Solid Snake's final redemption ends, I know tears will be streaming down our faces from the sheer beauty of it, and I know even the greatest of skeptics will know it'll have been worth it. Sure, some of us will keep trolling, because we're pig-headed and envious that our own company didn't get there first, but everyone, especially us, will understand that we don't mean it, that it's just the tantrum of a manchildren who can't admit they were wrong. And that's alright, isn't it?

Look, I'm a Console Warrior. I may or may not get paid to espouse the things I say, but at the end of the day brand loyalty is everything to me. If my console does it, it's awesome, almost by definition, and you're stupid for saying otherwise. If your console does something mine doesn't, that thing sucks, and I'll find a reason why later. The One has simply fallen into the latter category: I'm just running with what others have thrown at the wall. And while I always suspected, I'm glad to have it confirmed that I am not, in fact, the only one. So thank you, and see you around the forums.

And don't ever refer to this post outside this thread. As the Industry has been demonstrating recently, honesty is not always the best policy.

There's nothing to come clean about. I never denied anything.

And I do care about consumer rights! As long as they're mine.

i had a 1% chance of buying XB1, until this DRM, always online BS.

I've been a Playstation fan for 3 generations straight. Although I have owned an Xbox 360 over the years, I don't categorize myself as a fan. I never have been and I probably never will be if Microsoft continues on this path.

Your only basic consumer right is having the option to buy the console. Nothing more.

I think the only other companies big enough to compete with the likes of Sony and Nintendo also want to go digital. So just deal with MS.

Sega make a comeback? My eyes can't stop rolling from the thought of that. The Sega we used to love is dead. DEAD!

I'm glad he stopped answering you because you make so little sense.

He is interested in MS' games but they are not allowing him to because they dip into what he considers to be unacceptably bad practices. The guy says to have spent thousands of dollars in xbox games and I would be ready to believe him. If that were the case, then I understand him being upset about the situation given that he actually WANTS  to buy the games but he can't as it goes against his principles.

I'm pretty sure he's aware that he can boycott, which he is doing, but it doesn't change the fact that, to him, MS has the option to not go anti-consumerist and allow him to buy the games they make that he enjoys. That's what he means by basic consumer right, the right to have ownership of the content you purchase. They are not letting him have that basic right though he wants to buy their games.

You're the one making little sense.

He still has the option to play and enjoy Xbox One games. But if going digital is a deal breaker for him, too bad.

MS meeting his needs is not his basic consumer right.

To be honest Rol, almost all of your questions don't apply to me because I'm predominantly a Nintendo fan; which makes it kinda hard to explain my reasons why I dislike MS's recent decisions....

Question 1.
No because I never owned an Xbox (original) due to (me) having virtually no interest in it. Therefore no interest in online let alone paying for it.

Question 2.
Just for kicks I got 360 S 4GB for free (part of that get a PC for college thing) The only games that I caught my eye were GOW 1,2,3, Ninja Gaiden and a couple of third party titles. That was it. I had zero interest in the rest of their games. So I in the end, I never got tired of the sames they announced since they weren't my thing.

Question 3.
Sony? Pretty much the same with MS. I had/have very little interest in Sony since (like MS) most of their games don't appeal me to me.

Question 4.
I guess you could say this is one is true. Again, being a nintendo fan, I hardly bought M rated games but when I did, I enjoyed them nonetheless. Hell I have 10 m rated games for my wii alone.

Question 5.
No...ever (I'm not a troller). But I still have no intent in buying the XB1.

After writing this I think I can see why you didn't have Qs like this pertaining to Nintendo gamers. The only reason why I criticize MS is because it feels like the entire industry is going this route. If/when that ever happens, then brace yourselves.

I don't think that answering yes to one of those options mean you're not going to get the new Xbox. I've complained about Live for years, but still pay for it because I have to in order to play my games. I also didn't troll Kinect threads, but I do hate motion gaming.

Well never liked MS in the industry honestly.. but the fact is.. I will probably get a XBOX and XBOX 360 at some point in time.. for my collection.. but XBOX One.. will join the CD-I in not making it's way to my collection because of their policies.. (CD-I was just crap sorry )

Nintendo Wii by generations...

1. Wii

2. Wii U

3. Wii O U

Predictions made by gamers concerning the current Nintendo line up of games.

Pikmen 3= Little Bump to nothing. (Got Little Bump)

Wind Waker HD= Won't sell anything (The explosion happened here and at one time 4 Wii U games was in the Amazon top 100)

Super Mario 3D World= Won't help at all looks cheap. (Currently the most sought after Wii U game and continuing the Wii U increase.)

Sorry if this is long, but I haven't just rushed it out.

First, I was a happy PS1 owner. After that, I was close to buying an XBox, actually, instead of a PS2. I liked the improved graphics over what I've seen on the PS2, and I've also had a chance to play Halo for a few hours which left a great impression. But when I learnt that Final Fantasy X was in no way, shape or form coming to the system, I just couldn't do it. Made a very wise decision, got a PS2. Everyone else I knew did or already had one, anyway.

This gen, I was put off buying a PS3 due to the price. I followed the 360 a lot more than PS3, again had a chance to play some games and was almost certain I was going to get the system. 360 was getting a lot of great games, was cheaper, and the PS3 didn't even have rumble, and I'm a rumble fanatic. But somehow, I ended up with a PS3, fat 80GB model with DS3. The price came down, rumble was back, PS3 after all had free online, and Metal Gear Solid 4 and Heavy Rain exclusives had me plenty excited. This gen, I don't think I would've been unhappy had I gone with the 360, but I'm glad I've gone with Sony again.

Next gen, I was going to, and am still, kinda, giving Xbone an equal chance to please me. But it isn't pleasing me. PS4 will allow me to bring it to my cabin, where I've got around 64kbps mobile Internet connection limited to 512MB a month, and play it on a Vita. That alone beats any of the exclusive features the Xbone offers, for me. I will be able to import games from Asia or the US. And all those limits, restrictions and above all inconveniences DRM imposes, I'll have no problems with that.

And with everything, especially MS basically resigning a large part of the market to Sony, I am very confident right now that if I'm with Sony, I won't be on the losing team. I like some of the things I've seen on the Xbone, all to do with games and some cloud applications like Drivatars, but it's not for me.

Oh and I do care about consumer rights. I actually see the word 'consumerism' in a good light.

I have a 360 and find it to be a great console, specially for the exclusive games. I also have a Wii. That doesn't mean I will support what MS is trying to do with the Xbox One, I sincerely care about consumer rights.
