Yep. Some people in here go in MS threads acting all dramatic (Fuck MS!) and downright insulted at the Xbone but you just know that those people would never have bought the console anways and had it been Sony in that situation those people would have found ways to play down or positively twist what they were doing.
Some of these people were the same people passionately berating MS for charging for online in the last few years but an online paywall isn't a bad thing anymore now for them.
i think minimum 80 percent of people who complain so much about xbox one in forums like vgc would have never bought it even without internet and used games stuff. or only after some years and that is something i can still see as possibility for them if they realize that they can still sell their games on many places, can share their games with their 10 best friends (as if there would be many who share games with more than 10 people), that they are already always online with their ps4 because this console will be also horrible without internet and that all games will be playabale even in 20 years if microsoft will shut down the servers.
I was probably never going to buy an Xbox One but all these restrictions made it impossible. And yes i do care about my rights, any company that disrespects doesn't get my money. Why should we have rights, if we aren't even aware of them? We must exercise them to stop tyranny. And yes i'm pro-Playstation but if they did the same as Microsoft did with Xbox One, i would refuse to buy that to and i think Sony was very aware of that. If anything, by Microsoft being like this, it has made me hate them far more and i didn't mind Xbox 360.

You can turn it off.

Gaming would indeed be better without MS.
With only two manufacturers, the Game Industry wouldn't be able to freeze Nintendo out. So the result would likely be a gaming rivalry. And I like those.
I LOVE ICELAND!

I certainly wouldn't say I'm "insecure" about the issue. It's two different things. I've never had any interest in the Xbox brand to begin with. I don't like Microsoft as a company, I've never cared for the design of their consoles/controllers, and I really just don't care for their exclusives, so there is no reason why I would ever need to own an Xbox, and naturally by extension no, I never had any notions of ever buying an Xbox One.
However, that doesn't make my support of customer rights disingenuous because I trash MS for what they're doing. I'd shit all over Sony or even Nintendo if they partook in the draconian practices that MS is. It is absolute bullshit to tell a customer that they can't buy or sell used games. It's one thing to have a digital copy of a game that you downloaded be tied to your account. But for traditional, PHYSICAL games, there has been a longstanding ability/tradition of being able to sell or buy or even trade used copies of those games, dating all the way back to the Atari 2600. It is absolutely an ethical stand, and not a false one, as far as I'm concerned.
It's not bad enough that MS is enforcing/supporting this. The real issue is that many of the big third party publishers are pushing for DRM, and killing off the used games market. I just don't like the direction that the games industry is trying to head in.
As far as that's concerned, I wholeheartedly agree with the spirit of what Reggie said, about "If developers are so concerned about the used games market, perhaps they should make games good enough that people want to keep them." Paraphrasing, but I still agree with the spirit of the point he was making. And beyond that, if someone wants to sell or buy a used game, it's their prerogative, or right. The way MS is doing it, you can't even just trade or borrow a game from a friend to try out without paying a fucking fee. That is beyond ridiculous.

Your only basic consumer right is having the option to buy the console. Nothing more. I think the only other companies big enough to compete with the likes of Sony and Nintendo also want to go digital. So just deal with MS. Sega make a comeback? My eyes can't stop rolling from the thought of that. The Sega we used to love is dead. DEAD! |
I'm glad he stopped answering you because you make so little sense.
He is interested in MS' games but they are not allowing him to because they dip into what he considers to be unacceptably bad practices. The guy says to have spent thousands of dollars in xbox games and I would be ready to believe him. If that were the case, then I understand him being upset about the situation given that he actually WANTS to buy the games but he can't as it goes against his principles.
I'm pretty sure he's aware that he can boycott, which he is doing, but it doesn't change the fact that, to him, MS has the option to not go anti-consumerist and allow him to buy the games they make that he enjoys. That's what he means by basic consumer right, the right to have ownership of the content you purchase. They are not letting him have that basic right though he wants to buy their games.
I legitimatly would like to like this console, by I already felt MS was not the best consumer friendly company. Bionic on GAF wrote really well for me. I told him I would quote him on this.
"But you are in the minority that think MS is giving you a good deal. They are charging you 100 dollars more for inferior hardware and a peep cam into your sordid Cardinals bedroom. They are also adding in DRM and always online for no reason other than to make more money without giving you anything in return. Most people don't like to give up something they were used to doing without getting something substantial in return. You don't seem to care but that is you dawg. Just like the rest of us think MS is bending everyone over."
