Forums - Gaming - Xbox One and PS4 have 'comparable power,' says Watch Dogs producer

PS4 will be about 50% more powerful - all the technology media have already pointed that out.

BUT: At the current state of computer graphics, 50% more power does not make a really huge difference in visuals.

That's probably what he meant.

7770 has 72GB/s, XOne's main memory is 68.3GB/s - additional XOne's enhancements will certainly boost performance of its GPU, but so will additional enhancements in PS4's GPU. Hence, I think 7850vs7770 comparison is fair starting point.

The problem with your number is that you are not taking in account of the eSRAM(very low latency) which has a higher bandwidth than the gimp one in the 7770 on top of other possible enhancements and that the DDR3 has a lower latency than GDDR5. I'm just trying to be fair. :P

I am actually, but I'm also taking into account enchancements implemented in PS4's GPU that Cerny talked about. That's why I'm comparing vanilla 7850 and 7770, though both PS4 and XOne have better GPUs in reality.

Not that it will matter for the most part, except for few exclusives - as someone mentioned before, people have problems seeing difference between next and current gen (which is quite...amusing), though there is 8-12x difference in raw proccesing power between them.

It's probably because they are still using current gen assets and are just slapping better lighting and resolution with better DoF on them for the most part, PC gamers have had to suffer that kind of BS for awhile now. Hopefully things will finally get pushed forward at least, the problem I see right now is that even though publishers keep saying dev cost won't go up, I'm sure it will once the assets become a lot bigger in scale in general, I wonder how many companies will go out of business during the 8th gen trying to make 8th gen AAA games.

I do think the Xbox One is shit, but it's not because of hardware abilities, and PS4 is heading into that direction as well, most people are just okay with it because Xbox One looks so fucking bad right now that the flaws of PS4 is not as apparent. I don't want people to get clouded by hate when we are talking about tech related stuff, that's for sure. Services on the other hand, jebus fuck..... I don't know what MS is thinking these days, they are bat shit insane.

I wouldn't call 50% "magnitude", but not completely "comparable" either.

I'm wondering if it makes the slightest bit of difference. The Wii U has less than a third the FLOPS of either system, and yet actually looking at gameplay trailer for X and MGSV...I see a difference, sure, but I would never believe the difference is almost 1.3 Teraflops and four times the memory.

Whatever benchmark difference there is between the systems, I have a hard time imagining my eye seeing a difference.

Actually, when comparing Wii U and PS4/XOne you can't really use FLOPS. Later are built on GCN architectures, which is way ahead in efficiency over VLIW5 WiiU is based on, so real difference is much, much bigger (not getting now into full explanation, some people here are just too oversensitive on that matter, but you can look up Superchunk's comparison thread for more or less accurate estimations and explanations).

As for difference between X and MGSV - as Kojima stated, MGSV E3 trailer is more tuned to current gen consoles (and honestly it shows in several places) - I do see lot of difference even there, but I'm guessing it more comes down to Kojima's engine and his team, than to PS360 vs WiiU.

But, yes, you're right, at the end, I don't think difference in visual fidelity between PS4 and XOne will be that big, bar for few exclusives perhaps.

If PS4 is 50% more powerful don't expect to see much difference between the two. Xbox was 2x more powerful than PS2 and I don't remember it blowing PS2 out of the water.

You obviously dont remember Splinter Cell. Night and day. The original Xbox ran laps around the PS2.

Resident Evil 4.

Resident Evil 4 looked and played far better on GAMECUBE, let alone the Xbox. The PS2 was far and away the better console that gen, but lets not delude ourselves. The original Xbox was a beast power wise.
