Forums - Sony - You won't be able to play your games if Sony shuts down their servers ( PSplus)

Is this not just blatent trolling?

You won't be able to play games that you get as part of your PS+ subscription because you don't own these games, they are given to you as part of your subscription. The same is not true to for physical games.

And if you don't think that there is a legitimate chance of M$ giving up on these old games so you can't play them in 5 years, just look at Halo 2. I bought it new physically, but the product code didn't work because Microsoft gave up supporting it.

It's very simple. If you buy a PS4 game physically you own it, the same is not true to the Xbox One. Can this thread by locked for trolling?

MS Full Defense mode activated!!

Playstation owners know the deal. We know we're not going to keep PS+ indefinitely whether we drop service on our own free will or whether PS3 PSN is shut down. The difference is that we're only paying $50 one time a year, sometimes less, or sometimes the same amount for a free three months, to have hundreds of $50+ contentt free every single month and that content will be free for however long we're on the subscription.

As a counter to your you're going to lose all your PS+ games. Right now there are still PS2 games you can play online. Yes. You heard me right. Last year, that is 2012, as in the 21st century, I've actually played Champions of Norrath and Champions Return to Arms online. That's over six years PS2 online is still active.

But PS2 online is just servers for PS2 games. It's not the actual PSN. PS4 PSN is still PSN. It might be a different end of it, like the PSP, PS3, and Vita version are similar but different. It's still PSN. If how long they keep PS2 servers up, I'm sure we atleast have more than a whole console generation to go through before we lose our PS+ titles on older titles. PS4 using the service, it means that Sony is going to keep the service available atleast for this next generation. Only $50 a year for all that content though? I couldn't care less if I lose it after all that time. Anything I have downloaded to my PS3 before the network is taken down will be able to be played atleast until the subscription end date. Meaning even after the servers are taken down I can finish up games I still haven't finished. Since I knew I was going to lose it all one day when I cancelled my subscription eventually, I have no issue with it.

I see a lot of people hating on the Xbox One and saying you won't be able to play your games anymore if their servers go down. But the same can be said about PSplus. If the service ends you will lose all your games. Now your answer will be " yes, but Sony would do something about it, they would give you your games at that moment". But the same can be said about Microsoft, they can unlock your games if the service expires.

Conclusion: The argument about not being able to play your games anymore is flawed

In your PS3/PSVITA/PS4 is registered the time in which your subscription ends THERE IS NOT NEED FOR AUTHENTIFICATION; so If my subscription ends by 2015; and Sony servers go down; I can still play my games until 2015.   After that if the servers are still down; and I cant renew my subscription, then yeah I wont be able to play those FREE games.   BUT I would still be able to play my disk based games till the end of days ;).

Conclusion: PS gives you the choice to get digital stuff without the need to authenticate; which enables you to continue playing if the servers go down.  With XBO you are forced into digital content requiring to authenticate in order to play games; so If the servers go down you are screwed.

Have a nice day ;)

It's been stated straight up by SONY that your FREE PS+ games are tied to your subscription. You don't need to connect to the internet to renew them every twenty four hours but they are time stamped to shut down for when ever your sub is supposed to end. Anything that cost you money outside of the Plus Sub itself on the other hand, is yours indefinitely. Whether it was with a Plus discount or now, It's your and works. Servers or no servers.

The problem is that with MS, your shit deactivates after 24 hours regardless of how you obtained it.

I'm not getting into this topic but ALL media deteriorates over time, Bluray is no different.  Unless you keep your games in a air sealed UV protected safe they will deteriorate eventually.  This is a bonkers reason to not want physical media though.

After treating my Saturn games the way I do, only for them to still work, I'm guessing "eventually" is a very long time.

My Saturn wouldn't play a few of my disks but I think that was the laser strength failing.

Which straw would you like to grasp upon?

We could use this photo in a lot of threads going around lately! Thanks man!

OP: I mostly buy hard copies of games fully understanding the convenience of both. I just like to hold it... Ya know?

You can play your free Plus games offline...What's the deal?

Game of the year 2017 so far:

5. Resident Evil VII
4. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
3. Uncharted: The Lost Legacy
2. Horizon Zero Dawn
1. Super Mario Odyssey

I thought I would've been tired of the "they are the same" arguments by now, but I am still enjoying them.

To compare this topic or the DRM and come to the conclusion that they are the same is to say Automobiles and Airplanes are the same thing because they both have wheels and seats for you to sit in... imo

What a terrible argument...

I.....this isn't the case.

Actually plus is only a requirement for the online component of the game.

You can still play offline without plus in single player.

But xbox one requires you to activate all your games/check in no matter what the game type is..

There you go, PS4 is completely playable, with all download content offline, just like the 360, PS3 and Wii are. These aren't DRM's.

Still, I prefer a physical copy. The only game I can see myself go digital is Animal Crossing: New Leaf, and that's because it's the type of game I'd want to play on a daily basis for a bit at a time. I still would like to own a retail copy and install it though.
