whos turf is Poland? Sony M$ or Nintendo?

poland=europe if that helps you.

Not really lol I meant like certain countries lean towards certain consoles.

A pop quiz. Which company would you go with:

a) Nintendo - not even present in the market, absolutely no support from the company, games and consoles are barely available, you have to hunt for them online, Wii still has blocked online gaming if you select Poland in the settings;

b) MS - they released the X360, but did not release Live. They graced us with it on 10th November 2010 - so they have been selling the console with no online capabilities for 5 years;

c) Sony - they gave you the PS3 with fully functioning PSN day 1, they are translating the games into your language, not just subtitles, but also dubbing them with the help of the most famous movie stars;

Take a guess who won :P

PC, and the console which is most easily pirated/cheapest.

BS! Yes, CS 1.6 is our national video game (not as big as SC in Korea, but almost ;) ) and PC is still king but it's getting weaker with every passing year. Among consoles PS3 didn't even break a sweat when selling more than X360 and Wii combined, even though it's so easy to hack X360 and Wii and so hard to hack PS3. So I'm sorry, but it's the most expensive and hardest to hack console that won. Though I have to admit that X360 has a strong market share, stronger than it deserves, since people were buying it to play pirated games at first and to play Kinect games later on.

To tell the truth, I don't even know how to comment on the OP. We're not talking about some remote country with a population equal to a single city in the US. Poland is 6th in the EU both in terms of population and GDP. Consoles are becoming more and more popular and common, the sales keep growing every year, the market is developing at a high pace, we have great developers who give awesome AAA games - The Witcher, Gears of War: Judgement, Bulletstorm, Dead Island, Sniper: Ghost Warrior, Call of Juarez, Painkiller, Two Worlds, Earth 2140. The numbers of consoles sold may not be mindblowing and Poland surely won't decide who wins next gen ;) but the winner of the next gen alone will easily sell 1-1.5 mil consoles in Poland if not more, since the market for consoles is growing at a fast and steady pace here. Heck, PS3 is going to achieve that and we know just how expensive it was at first. We're no UK or Germany, but to outright ignore such a market and give it away for free sure as hell isn't a good move, especially when you still are the underdog here.

Oh well, at least MS solved my problem about which consoles to choose for next gen. I knew the multimedia stuff wouldn't work in Poland, but never saw this one coming. Now it's settled - PS4 and Wii U, Sony and Nintendo - just like this gen. Can't wait to hear American MS fanboys complaining about Europe being "Sonyland" when they are the only company treating Europe seriously. By Europe I mean more than just Germany, UK and France.

Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!

My Vita to-buy list: The Walking Dead, Persona 4 Golden, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, TearAway, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, History: Legends of War, FIFA 13, Final Fantasy HD X, X-2, Worms Revolution Extreme, The Amazing Spiderman, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - too many no-gaemz :/

My consoles: PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim 320 GB, PSV 32 GB, Wii, DSi.

It's not that bad for Poland...I mean at least your Continent is getting the Xbone.

Africa on the other hand...

Edit: Looks liek ASIA is getting skipped too. This is unfortunate.

From what I've gathered, it's largely a bit of a wasteland. You have a relatively poor population combined with higher than US prices with the exception of retail PC games. Piracy is fairly common, and many games are simply never physically brought into the country. At this point, the first company that manages to introduce digital games for a low price, even lower than Steam's, will likely be victorious.

What the fuck is this ignorant, stereotypical bullshit?

Poor population? over 38,5 million people. Warsaw over 1,7 million population

In top 25 strongest economies in the world, and still steadily growing thanks to EU.

Piracy is common, here I will agree. But the many games aren't physically brought in the country is total bullshit. We get pretty much every game that is released in Europe, save maybe for Nintendo games, Nintendo is almost non-existent in Poland, they don't even bother to have an official representation, a middleman corporation is stocking Nintendo hardware and games, that's why Nintendo is mostly a joke for polish gamers. The other two? Pretty much every, or entirely every game is physically released here.

Prices are in line with official European prices.

So it is happening...PS4 preorder.

Greatness Awaits!

Join the queue with the rest of Eastern Europe, The whole of Asia and Africa, and all of South America but Brazil who weren't get Xbox One at launch due to "poor" internet infrastructure.

Xbox Series, PS5 and Switch (+ Many Retro Consoles)

Poland is still PC land for the most part. Consoles became mainstream with this generation, mostly due to the fact that Poland joined EU in 2004, before then, we had much higher prices for games and consoles. For example PS2 at launch was 3000zl (aprox. 1000$ for today's exchange rate) now we have prices in line with all Europe.

Sony saw some success with PS2 and PSP due to the ease of pirating. That made Playstation synonymous with "console" for the mass consumer and casuals. Microsoft got a decent foothold in Poland with the 360 thanks to ease of pirating and lower price tag at launch, but we don't know how many  consoles have the exaclty sold.

SCEP comunicated in May 2012 that they have sold over 500'000 PS3's by that time. So it's still save to assume on consoles front we're Sony land. But SCEP really tries hard to win over the consumer, we get every first-party game fully localised, very often with our popular actors and celebrities. We get every game in line with every other European country, and PSN has more features than XBL (which launched in 2010 iirc), PSN was ready from day 1.

Nintendo is like a obscure joke here, almost non-existent here. But they don't give a damn for our market. They don't even have official representation like Nintendo Poland.

Poland is Central Europe, not Eastern. I doubt anyone is gonna join any queue, since you know, there is competition in the market and it seems to be "quite" strong so I doubt anybody in Poland is gonna care about the inferior X-box One. It's pretty much just "SMH and go buy a PS4 without thinking about it for a split second".

When I say "poor population," I do not mean a lack of people. I mean that the population has less money per capita than in some other countries.

And yes, the overall economy is fairly strong. That doesn't mean the people are particularly wealthy.

The Polish guy I talked to a while back was a Nintendo fan, so perhaps my account comes from a biased source.

That is almost everywhere really. It's amazing that anyone out there is willing to support Xbox now

Ohh, I didn't get that meaning, not a native speaker you see. Fair enough, per capita we're not very wealthy, but that's only changing for the better.

If he was a Nintendo fan that explains everything, as I said before Nintendo is very obscure in our country, but it's only Nintendo to blame. The other two have very strong presence, especially Sony, we're even flooded with TV and cinema adds for holiday season or when a big game is about to  release, since like 2011. Sony tries hard and it shows in hardware and software sales.

Edit. And sorry for the other reply, I got a bit agressive.
