Mr Puggsly said: Its not just lower income families that rent. I rent because I don't really play games after I complete the campaign and few games are worth $60 to me. Take out the option of renting or buying used and I'll just wait for inevitable price cuts as will many consumers. I like having the option to rent and buy used. But unfortunately that doesn't help the publishers that actually created the game.
"I own the disk and if I want to sell it give it or trade it I should be able to do so. It works that way with everything else we buy, why should games be any different." With digital downloads, that's just the way it is. You generally can't sell, trade, or give digital downloads away. The Xbox One may have physical discs you can buy from a retailer, but don't be fooled. The Xbox One is really a digital platform. The install disc just saves time compared to downloading. For example, when I bought a physical copy of Left 4 Dead 2 on the PC I was given a license key and a disc. I could enter the license key into Steam and just download the game. The disc was however was an option for a faster install. Its no different with the Xbox One. |
But we arn't talking about digital downloads, we are talking about a physical disk. Actual tangable property. This will not only kill used games but at the same time it will hurt new games sale. I use money from games that i don't want to keep in my collection to help fund the next game. I would be buying half the games i do in a year if i had to buy each and every one new. Yeah, i could wait. I do that now. But when i want a new game, and i got stuff that im not playing hanging aound I want those disk to have value.
