There are these things called demos in this day and age. They used to be exclusive to PC, but now all handhelds and consoles have them too. For those games without playable demos, you also have free access to dozens of gameplay videos and reviews on the world wide web.

Just because everyone likes a game doesnt mean I will, and also not all Demos actually show what the entire game is like, and one more thing please dont talk down to me.

The combination of demos and reviews(both negative and positive, User and critic) should at least give you enough info to make an informed decision on your purchase. imo, M$ should make demos mandatory for all Xbox One retail titles. I've never loved a demo and hated a game, but maybe that's just me.

Oh, and sorry, heh. I never used to talk like this before. Too much time reading N4G and Youtube comments, I guess.

Ty for apologising and yes I see your point with the demos and reviews but somehing could change although it is highly unlikely it is still possible. Also the methods you mentioned is why most games are bought these days, But and a very big "But" not all games are reviewd and showed fairly and also not all games have a demo before their launch.

If a developer is too lazy/secretive to put out a demo their game, despite the lack of reviews, then I'm not gonna take my chances on it. Unless it's under $10, of course. heh. I can see how rentals could come in handy in that there. Though situations like that are becoming more and more uncommon, and they may very well be nonexistant on the Xbox One.

"The target demographic of games is poor people"

What's he's definition of poor people? Gaming is and has always been a very expensive hobby. A low middle american will have problems keeping up with a big library of games, being new, used, rent, whatever. The target demographic of video games is the middle class and up, not poor people.

Other than that I agree with everything.

I think what he meant by it is that people and families that are "well off" dont usually spend money on the video game industry, not meaning they dont play games it's just that the majority of the money that they spend is on more typical things like vacations, new cars, a new house maybe (which is smart btw). But as someone like me a who is a student and works cant afford those things and turns to video games for their expence and relaxation (same with younger people that really only have an allowence for money). I just believe it is a cheaper form of expences then what i have mentioned, also i dont think a lot of hobby's are cheap, I mean anything can be really expensive u put enough money into it, but that's why there hobby's :P

Yeah I understand that. But that collage student isn't poor, he's probably a low middle class american. Poor kids and students don't have the money to even buy the console itself, let alone buy a tons of games. This might have been different in the 80's and 90's because the economy was a lot more stable than it is now, but today this is a different story.

I agree with all of his points, but he should have used a better term.

But listen people, if you wanted the world to work like this guy says it should, you should have voted for communism or socialism as the governing rule of your country.

There is really no room for consideration when it comes to little Timmy and his poor family in capitalism. People do things for profit. Games get made for profit. Gamestop exists to make a profit...

Otherwise pretty much everything this guy is saying is going to contradict itself when next gen market doubles current gen sales, despite "DRM".

I think youll find our goverments are Democratic, not capatalist. And as a Democracy it is made up of parts Captalist, Socialist and many others. His points are extremly valid. I may get band for this but i really pity you and anyone that think making a buck is more important than doing what is morally or socially responsible.

Garbage.

Got bored after 5 minutes of his tale of how he personally only does downloads and doesn't ever buy used or rent and it wont affect him.... BUT, but he is special because he is lower middle class apparently.

This guy is held up repeatedly, when he is actually just... some guy.

Soo tell me if the average gamer is between the ages of 14 - 30, tell me who in that age Bracket isn't above middle class? Cause as the majority stands that age group is one of the poorest in the world. Are you higher then Middle Class?(rhetorical) cause i sure as hell am not, and i'm not some idiot workin a minimum wage, but im not living comfortably either. He is right with this economy being the way it is, it's VERY hard to have a good life and enjoy video games. And also he has a very good point about when he was young with how he would have never discovered certain games if wasnt able to borrow or rent them, I felt like he was speaking for me because in that sense some of my most favorite games I discoverd were from friends letting me borrow them and also goin down to the Store and renting some of the Just released games. And I am pretty sure you have found Some good games AND some bad ones when you rented or borrowed them, so really it is so beneficial to keep things the way they are.

Same with me, I got my first NES system because my dad was able to pick it up used for 100 dollars with 10 games. That is the only reason I ever got to play Zelda and Mario when I was a kid. If we cut out used games or loaning and renting then we are cutting out a large group of people that will one day become paying gamers, like i am today. The used game market/renting is all part of the ecosystem, take away part of it and there’s a good chance it's going to crash.

Don't worry about him, he'll side with MS no matter what they do.

Kk so yeah i know i'm not alone with this and it's looking like the majority of the internet is also on our side, but yeah this is how we grew up it's not like we can just be expected to give up how we play games and then just go along with the motions ..... ARGGGHHHHHHHH this makes me so infuriated that people think this is FINE and it will have no impact on how they play games, I gaurentee these same people will buy a game that they hate and guess what ... they just wasted 60 bucks on a game they will never play again, or they will trade it in to a "Certified" dealer that will obviously screw them over on price for what its actually worth.
... *huge sigh* ...
so sad

yes because we all know how demos are very representative of the final product. (Aliens CM) oh...oh!

That's simply not true. Gaming is a cheap hobby unless you're absolutely crazy on completing hundreds of games, like badgenome.

A console plus 20 games over the course of a generation will cost rufly $1,200, that's only $20 per month over 5 years.

A hobby that gives dozens if not hundreds of hours of entertainment for $20 per month is a very cheap hobby.

No i believe letting companies steam roll over your consumer rights because your rich enough that it doesnt effect you in this case is socially irresponcible, lets just hope a right you do care about isnt taken away from you one day. If your defending MS and xbox one cos yoru a fanboy just say so, but dont try and defend the errosion of people rights.

Aliens:CM doesn't have a demo, to my knowledge. Link?

Also, to clarify, I mean a demo that's freely released on Steam/XBL/PSN, not E3 demos, and the like.

Well you wanna take away publishers right on how they can distribute a product.

Consumers still have the right to not purchase a product.

Bear in mind nobody likes DRM. And if you feel DRM is a ripoff, don't give them your money. Its a pretty simple soulution.
