You can also go offline totally and play offline with the Xbox One. You just need to make it go online every 24hrs. His answer is vague, IMO.

Internet won't be required if they use the RFID tag patent. Yoshida said that they never thought of using an always online DRM system, not once mentioning used games at all. Using the RFID tag wouldn't require the PS4 to be always online and it would allow games to be resold if the system was connected on the internet. You could still play the system totally offline if you bought new games only.

Anyway, I guess we should all wait till Sony clarifies it's DRM policy officially on the PS4 site like MS did on the Xbox site. Their responses till now have been very vague, so don't be surprised if not everyone believes in what was said like you do.

Saying, "Oh yes, it's completely optional" is still vague to you? LOLS. As for the RFID tag... You mean... the thing that would lock out used games? The used games both gamestop and Sony confirmed will play on the Ps4? Also, the same patent sites reported that sony denied being for the Ps4? LOLS

the x1 can play used games aswell they said its up to the publisher to allow it or not just like sony said.

If it could then why can't you loan friends your game at console launch?

http://news.xbox.com/2013/06/license  umm this says you can trade them in

Trade-in and resell your disc-based games: Today, some gamers choose to sell their old disc-based games back for cash and credit. We designed Xbox One so game publishers can enable you to trade in your games at participating retailers.  Microsoft does not charge a platform fee to retailers, publishers, or consumers for enabling transfer of these games.

the reason why renting or loaning arent there at launch is porbably due to the game registering to the user.  they are probably working on a way to get it up and running

Maybe you didn't read what I said?

I don't think all publishers are going to do this. Therefore you can enjoy the PS4 completely offline.

I don't think any publish will require you to go online to register it before you can play your single player game. I fully believe it will strictly be multiplayer games that you need to log onto servers to play

Wishful thinking.

He didn't say register to play online. He said register online to play the game.

Its clear some publishers are pushing for this and discussed it with Sony. This is why Sony is allowing it.

About Sony denying the patent being for the PS4, well, nothing is stopping them from making the patent work with the Blu-ray drive/disc which is housed inside the PS4. Technically, the patent wouldn't be for the PS4 itself LOL

Now you're just being silly.

I don't have proof per say, but the question is: Why would EA, Ubisoft, etc. let Sony have a iron fist over the used game market in terms of not being able to restrict it? Seems more beneficial for Sony to allow the publishers to do what they want with the used market. I'm still leaning towards Sony letting the publishers do what they want in terms of used games but I could be wrong. We will see at E3 and beyond.

It's just that simple.

I don't know how Sony will implement DRM without having some kind of always online. The fact that you can completely be offline and play PS4 games tells me that there isn't any kind of serious DRM like the Xbone. The only real reason why the Xbone needs to do the 24 hour check is to make sure of the status of your games.

umm so you can take it only where Microsoft says you can? So there is more you can't do with that disc you  "own" then things you can do?

i think there are other reasons to the internet other then the status.  i think its so devlopers will use the cloud stuff.   its wat happened with kinect on the 360 ya alot were sold but to a devloper it would be a huge risk/waste of time to do something with it.  so if dev made a game they wouldnt know if it would be played with or without the cloud, now they know the console is connected there is less of a risk if they decide to use the cloud

Still the same people hoping Sony implements DRM, regardless of what Sony has said to the contrary.  Just like how Sony was supposed to start charging for PSN by the end of this gen, you know, since MS was doing it.  Or how some were hoping the PS4 Eye would be a requirement, like Kinect.  I guess they'll never learn.

You should also put this in the OP.  ' "Death Ray Manta coming to Playstation Vita!  #DRMPSVita' - Yoshida Tweet

Seriously, is the man going to play around like that if Sony is just going to end up announcing a bunch of DRM for their system?  Any sane person would tell you no.

Just a little over the top don't you think.  Anyways, I'm not reffering to online connection required to play games I was reffering to the whole used game issue.  Publishers clearly have pushed this and what the op posted has Sony and ms in the same court on that issue.  Publishers want that fee on the resale and it looks like they are going to get it.

The ps4 will play used games.... the xbox1 will need an internet connection, cannot rent or loan upon launch and eventually when you can you can loan it a grand total of once and you need to sell it to an MS approved retailer. I don't see a single similarity

You know the xb1 will also play used games right?  All i was saying is that is pretty clear that when you buy a used game both ps4 and ms will probably allow the publisher to decide if that game can be played on the new console without an upfront fee for the resale of the game.  We know how ms is doing it but I'm not sure how ps4 is going to implement it, my guess it will be some sort of DRM.  With what Sony has said about how they will allow publishers to handle this I assume they have some sort of system in place to handle it.  Why else would they answer the question the way they did.  If they weren't going to be detailing with used sale fees they would have just said, we are going to keep the current system we have.
