Forums - Sony - For those with your head in the sand (PS4 DRM)

It's actually pretty durn similar.

Disc based DRM, no forced online, but still a lot of 3rd parties will choose to do so. But we need more info to be sure and I'm not sure if Sony is going to clarify until launch.

Ok. So they can do it through the system but up to them. How can that happen without Sony's approval you know what I mean? Its allowable in their system for it to have a chance otherwise it wouldn't be possible at all.

I'll tell you now I don't understand a whole lot about it

They aren't doing it through the Ps4 hardware. They are doing it when you connect to the 3rd parties own servers. That has nothing to do with Sony and is the same way for the Ps3. That is the only possible conclusion we can come up with from what has been presented to us so far.

Ok then. Well it can happen with every system then.

so one thing has sony them selves publicy come out and said that the patent is not for the ps4 cuz everything ive found is that a source said this.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-02-21-sony-tells-eurogamer-playstation-4-will-not-block-used-games

Interestingly, I also spoke to a Sony source elsewhere at the event this evening who told me that the anti used-game patent discovered last month was actually nothing to do with PlayStation 4 at all.

The patent suggested that discs would come branded with a contactless tag that could be recognised and read by your console, which would then bind it to you and prevent you from selling it on.

I didn't put it in the OP because the source is unnamed. Therefor it's credibility isn't nearly as high as the rest of the quotes. However, I doubt eurogamer would make that up and it is definatly more credible then posters on this forum

And please, provide me your evidence that you have seen that would suggest the conclusion you made. Because from what I've posted it goes against this entire line of thinking... Why would the need to clarify any further when the questions have been asked and answered? I'd much rather the media start asking different questions so we can get new information that hasn't been answered more than once

Based on this, I anticipate some PS4 games will have to be activated online. Thus deterring used games sales.

However, I don't anticipate PS4 DRM to be as bad as the Xbox One.

Based on this you determine a game needs to be activated online for a console that doesn't require and internet connection.... hm.... okay sir

Well it may not spy on you and crap, but it's still largely "up to the publishers". Does M$ require no used games? Publishers can lock or unlock as they please yeah?

Still thinking that people are falling for a classic bait and switch here. Oh at least it's not Xbone level, I can accept this then. Sony is still to a degree, supporting this if they have something in their hardware specially designed to detect and block used games.

I fully expect Sony to enact what they have been saying all along, leave it completely up to the devs so people can avoid those games that enact some used game restrictions.though I don't aprrove of the devs doing this(and partially Sony for allowing this) but atleast they're giving us a choice.

hopefully some clarity will at E3, all this MS debacle has put some unwanted pressure on Sony, DRM is coming to PS4, the only question is how much/severe...

"any requirement for users to register a game online in order to play it would be left to game publishers. Sony won't require that."

How else can this be interpreted? Sony is allowing games to be registered online for them to be playable.

It sounds like he's saying don't blame us! We're just allowing publishers to do it. I'm guessing some major publishers will take advantage of it.

You want Sony to clarify at e3 what they have already answered? Shit, I want new information! As for what you are saying this is no different than the Ps3. It actually would probably be impossible for Sony to stop 3rd partys from using the system since it sounds like its not going through sonys servers but 3rd parties own servers

hey, take it easy :)

I know it's just like what the PS3 but it just seems that now the act of DRM will just be used on a larger scale.I'm on your side, what I meant by clarity is to just repeat what they've been saying in just one narrative; it's just now on E3;the grandest stage it will finally put all the outside speculation to rest.(well to most people :p)
