Forums - Sony - For those with your head in the sand (PS4 DRM)

I think it's pretty clear ms and Sony will be following the same user restriction policy which is to say there will be online passes for your games and third party publishers will undoubtedly have a used game fee. The comments posted in the op seem to follow the same line as ms.

But Sony definitely will not require an online connection which is good for those that don't play online.

I'm guessing rentals won't be a problem either for the ps4 not sure why ms isn't allowing them.

Based on this, I anticipate some PS4 games will have to be activated online. Thus deterring used games sales.

However, I don't anticipate PS4 DRM to be as bad as the Xbox One.

Based on this you determine a game needs to be activated online for a console that doesn't require and internet connection.... hm.... okay sir

"any requirement for users to register a game online in order to play it would be left to game publishers. Sony won't require that."

How else can this be interpreted? Sony is allowing games to be registered online for them to be playable.

It sounds like he's saying don't blame us! We're just allowing it.

Yes, ignore, "Playstation 4 can still be enjoyed old school without an Internet connection at all" - Mr. Denny...

Yes yes... they are allowing games to need to be registered online for them to be playable on a system that doesn't require online at all... Wowzers...

If you really believe what you are saying may god have mercy on your soul. The comments in the OP are no where near the same as MS. Online passes don't block out being able to play single player like they would on the xbox1.

You can also go offline totally and play offline with the Xbox One. You just need to make it go online every 24hrs. His answer is vague, IMO.

Internet won't be required if they use the RFID tag patent. Yoshida said that they never thought of using an always online DRM system, not once mentioning used games at all. Using the RFID tag wouldn't require the PS4 to be always online and it would allow games to be resold if the system was connected on the internet. You could still play the system totally offline if you bought new games only.

Anyway, I guess we should all wait till Sony clarifies it's DRM policy officially on the PS4 site like MS did on the Xbox site. Their responses till now have been very vague, so don't be surprised if not everyone believes in what was said like you do.

Saying, "Oh yes, it's completely optional" is still vague to you? LOLS. As for the RFID tag... You mean... the thing that would lock out used games? The used games both gamestop and Sony confirmed will play on the Ps4? Also, the same patent sites reported that sony denied being for the Ps4? LOLS

the x1 can play used games aswell they said its up to the publisher to allow it or not just like sony said.

If it could then why can't you loan friends your game at console launch?

Yes... like this gen (PS3).... nothing changed.

I don't know why people keep saying, "I fully expect Sony to implement something very similar" or "Now lets wait to see what Sony has to say."  The questions have been asked and Sony has answered.... numerous times since the reveal.... yet people still doubting. Its ridiculous.

They don't doubt it really, they desperately need PS fans to suffer equaly in order to alleviate some of their own suffering. These are the sorts of people that would pull the flowers up in the neighbours garden because they grow up playing on concrete. Love brings people together and hate cements that contract.

The PS5 Exists.

Just a little over the top don't you think.  Anyways, I'm not reffering to online connection required to play games I was reffering to the whole used game issue.  Publishers clearly have pushed this and what the op posted has Sony and ms in the same court on that issue.  Publishers want that fee on the resale and it looks like they are going to get it.

Maybe you didn't read what I said?

I don't think all publishers are going to do this. Therefore you can enjoy the PS4 completely offline.

The ps4 will play used games.... the xbox1 will need an internet connection, cannot rent or loan upon launch and eventually when you can you can loan it a grand total of once and you need to sell it to an MS approved retailer. I don't see a single similarity

I don't think any publish will require you to go online to register it before you can play your single player game. I fully believe it will strictly be multiplayer games that you need to log onto servers to play

if my memory serves me right what atleast EA might do is when the game is installed or atleast the game data a code is connected to the account/PS3(really don't know how to explain it)

I remember when my friend barrowed my Dead Space 2 he couldn't install extraction that came with it...maybe something like that but on a larger scale
