Forums - Gaming - MS allegedly paying devs and publishers to NOT show PS4 games at E3 2013

The NFL deal is $400,000 over 5 years so no. CoD is a maybe but I doubt they count that as an investment. Making a new game, opening a studio or something similar is what I was thinking. If CoD and Titanfall were counted, how would the X1 still get 15 internally developed titles? It's looking like the Xbox ONE could have 20+ exclusives over the PS4 in the first year alone.

So it wouldnt surprise me this is why Sony sold some buildings so they could at least get some cash in to spend.

I heard they had to sell those to pay for Gaikai and other things. It did give them an operating income though... So maybe.

i wish they would just use that money for something else.... you know, make their own games?

i honestly dont understand this, instead of buying third party exclusivity (mostly timed) why just not throw your money at making new studios? making new FIRST party games? yes, they have a few more studios. but it will never hurt to have even more

More studios?? They have 23 gane development studios, and 6 more for other stuff. How many do they possibly need? They HAVE thrown their money at opening studios. They also have more than Sony and Nintendo. They are all developing for the Xbox One, so if you think there will be a lack of 1st party games, you have another thing coming.

yeah, but what were they doing last Gen?

They opened several of those studios in the last couple of years. Most of them had to recruit people, and probably haven't started full-scale, core development by the end of last year, but by now, we will probably see some of their projects at E3.

There is a big cheese at MS that has been accused of stealing and cheatin.... rhymes will Mill Bates. I'm just teasing:)

the question is how many of them are indiedevelopers.

The only true "indie" developer that they own is Twisted Pixel. The rest of them are major console developers that have needed to staff up, and at this point, several of them will show stuff at E3.

Er...forgive my slowness here, but when a studio gets bought out by a large publisher, don't they by definition cease to be "indie"?

Notice how Diablo 3 was not announced for Xbox systems till now? You think Blizzard just didn't want to announce it on Xbox cause they felt like it, or cause Sony gave them an offer they couldn't refuse?

That lol

Or Blizzard thought "Sony" as a company was SOOOO passionate about gamers/gaming that they wanted to show the game and do not announce it at all for the 360. And this for free... riiiiight..

Well before this generation started, the method of courting 3rd Parties was based upon other means than how much money you could throw at them. It is no secret, Sony never paid for exclusive deals during PS1-2 era for games. They paid for advertising here and there, but that it. MS stepping into the game changed that dynamic, with their limitless coffers of cash its now a bidding war between the companies. Then again, Sony might still be able to wrangle deals with companies with other things than money. There is much benefit to align yourself with a company for one reason or another that doesn't entail cold hard cash.

Microsoft and Sony are both doing the same. Even if Microsoft got more money, they are using it in the same way than Sony.

Now, I totaly agree with the bolded part here. But other than conspiracy theories and Sony loyalits starting rumors, nothing is proving that Microsoft is not also making some join effort with other companies without paying them at the end...

Anyway, always back to the same point. People who really think that Sony is about passion and gaming and blah blah does not undesrtand how things are going in our world :) When 2 companies are working together, at the end, there is only one reason, revenues :)
