Whether true or not, ultimately it is the throne that legitimately belonged to Nintendo in years of old. Sony took it, Nintendo reclaimed it.

It is only possible that Sony steal it yet again.

(For those wondering, this is me lightening up :D)

1. It will likely still have the privilege of being the most profitable.

2. It will be yet another sign that third party publishers have near-total control of this market.

It wont mean much, outside of forum bragging rights.

By the time it happens very, very few will care. Will be a nice milestone though I guess.

Edit - And the successor to Wii U will also likely be about to launch. Showing just how much it wont mean anything to Nintendo

Well, they were the first to throw in the towel, so it wouldn't be surprising.

Biggest comeback ever, especially if 360 does it too. I see this happening if the 360 mini is truly used as a add-on to bring backwards compatibility to the Xbox one.

MS is consistent, they would essentially be 2nd place in every gen they compete in (assuming WiiU sales stay the same and Xbox one overtakes it)

Many people on the internet will make a big deal out of it but with the advent of a new generation it is mostly irrelevant.

All three major consoles did actually really well this last generation, they could very easily all end up around the same number of sales. Nintendo resurged after a bleak Gamecube performance had them looking at exiting the home console market. Microsoft was also able to surge, building on the modest successes of the XBox they were able to (at least) tripple its sales and becomes a driving force in the market where formally they were a much smaller force. And Sony, despite a rocky start, was able to leverage the PlayStation brand to win the Blu-Ray/HD-DVD battle and create a platform, that while (probably) not as successful as their last consoles is still very successful in its own right and will continue for several more years.

I am afraid if MS/Sony concentrate too much on continued support of their 360/PS3, that along with other factors this could see a much slower transition to the next gen than they are hoping for.

Nintendo will still have made more money on the Wii than Sony and Microsoft on the PS3 and X360 combined.

eh I doubt it.

Well, honestly, when the PS3 taking 2nd became officialy, I didn't get the flood of comments and bragging that I expected......everyone is too busy trashing the Xbox One to care really lol.

So, if this were to happen in 4 years where PS3 takes Wii, Id imagine wed care even less, so basically a "huh, that's nice", nothing more. Too much time would have passed.
