Forums - Microsoft Discussion - All this negativity won't stop Xbox One sales

There's this anti-Microsoft frenzy on the gaming forums at the moment. They've latched onto a couple of words from interviews about no used games and DRM, and blown them up into game-ending reasons not to buy a console.

As we know from last few years, GAMES and PRICE sell consoles. They are the only factors that truly matter and can lift sales. Wii, Vita, PS3, 3DS all illustrate this in different ways through their sales history. Multimedia functions never helped a console take off. We can run this argument in reverse: non-game factors never sunk a console either. RROD didn't really stop people buying 360s. Neither did ads on the home screen. It still had the games they wanted at a price they were willing to pay.

The DRM and used games issues, while bad and anti-consumer and all that, are the pet issues of a very small group. They won't filter out to general dissatisfaction in most Xbox customers. Most potential customers couldn't even name the next Xbox console right now, we're just too early in the cycle. If the games and price are right, the console will sell. It may take until the price halves and 3 big games come out to start selling. But don't blame that delay on the current reasons.

They just aren't make-or-break issues. They're not on their own evidence that the Xbox One will lose or that the competition will win. No matter how strong the echo chambers are making the hate seem or how hard you wish it was true.

You're right on that mark, some of my friends are going "Day One!" even as they know because "it's a non factor to them". They just want to play Forza and CoD.

Sure, there will still be the people that must run out any buy it simply because it's a new console, others because it's a new Xbox.. No skin off my back. They can deal with the DRM, and essentially the loss of control of their own games, but I'm out.

I couldn't care less about the sales of my console of choice xD Give me games and an estable system over a million-seller console which don't portrays what gaming is meant to be.

We are a vocal minority, this things affect us, but the majority of the public will buy the console anyway, because they do want to play the next Madden, FIFA and Call of Duty, the only thing that can hurt really bad the console is the final price.

The bolded go hand in hand.

Games and Price are directly relatable to DRM and used games issues.

They are alienating a large portion of the market. If the consumer doesnt know it now, they will know about it in 6 Months time.

to some it won't be a problem but what MS is doing is still very risky, maybe I'm beating a dead horse or what i've been saying in a couple of other threads holds little water but there's roughly about 30 million 360's that are not connected to the internet MS forgoes with this "connect every 24 hours" they can potentially lose that much of their install base.

Stop? No. Diminish considerably? Yes.

Also, theres no anti-microsoft movement. Microsoft are anti-consumer rights. They are the ones igniting this response from consumers.

Time will tell.
