Yea, it's not all bad. As long as you log in to you account, you can sorta virtually take your entire game library with you. They will not scratch on the cloud, or get lost.
Like how some movie services are today.

The market will crush this.
If it doesn't. It's all retro gaming/warhammer/magic the gathering for me in the future.
I like owning my games, and buying used retro games.
I LOVE ICELAND!

Personally, I like the game being on a physical medium. It makes me feel like I actually OWN my copy of the game, and am not merely "renting" a download of it. And personally, I also rather enjoy used games, and if it weren't for used games, I wouldn't be able to go back and find a lot of gems I missed along the way from previous console generations.
A future without any of that sounds like absolute shit to me. Thankfully Wii U isn't doing the lockout bullshit. Hopefully they don't.
So i m in the market with my friend for a new console.. me and my friend choose Xbox one... we both a choose a copy of definite multiplayer that we will be playing.. and a new ip which i never heard about so we decide to split up the purchase... on the counter representative say.. sorry u will only be able to play this on one console not both. actually that representative should slap us in the face for not knowing that!
Ur move SONY

If my girlfriend wants to play a game on my xbox with her account does she have to pay? If I want to borrow a game from a friend without them being in the room will I have to pay? If my internet connection goes down for more than 24 hours will I be able to play? That's what's bullshit. These are the reasons people stayed away from PC gaming. If Sony do the same thing I'll buy a WiiU. DRM can suck my balls and these companies won't get a fucking cent out of me. |
If your gf wants to play your Xbox One you will create a family account for her and she will be able to play it with her profile
You can't borrow your friends game without his profile because the he bought to rights to that game only with his profile
If your internet connection goes down you will be able to play single player as usual, according to microsoft.
Not giving a cent for games/consoles that have DRM is absolutely within your rights and I will commend you for passing upon some of the best games of the generation because of our beliefs.

Market has accepted this for every other digital medium. Only people that will complain here are maybe old school gamers set in their ways and people that are in to "pirating" or "borrowing" games for free. New generation of gamers will see this as perfectly normal as this is how their other devices function already.
While you can't buy used Retro games, you will be able to buy new retro games for a very low price. I bought all PC Sonic the Hedgehog games(20+ games) on Steam few months ago for less than 60 bucks.
And you do own games this way. You own them digitally. People don't understand that these consoles are X86 based, which is essentially the final frontier. I expect that the next few generations of consoles will all be X86 based with full backwards compatibility. Everything you buy, you will own and will follow you around, much like it does on an iPhone or Samsung Gallaxy.
I agree wholeheartedly with the article. Used games need to go away.
This will benefit gamers since all our money will go to the publishers and developers of new games, instead of the pockets of GameStop.

Lol but you do own it. However it's not tied to the disc. Disc is just the distribution method...
i really can't complain about it as steam user and someone who never buys used games and also doesn't swap them with friends. that's what i did when i was 15, now i buy the games i want. i really expect that buying games for xbox one will be cheaper on average as it was for the 360 or ps3 because, like the article mentions, there will be many more and better sales. at least cheaper for me.
all i would have wished for is a little bit stronger hardware.

The difference is, that in other media it empowered the customer. In gaming, it's doing the opposite.
