Well personally they should just remake Metroid 2 as a 2D sidescroller for the 3DS and do something completely new for the Wii U outing. Metroid 2 so far is the only game without the space pirates and it should stay that way.

They really need to expand the Metroid brand by having a Galactic Federation type of spin off maybe focusing on soldiers of the Federation and making it an FPS well still making the main games of Metroid an FPA.

i was thinking they should do a 2.5D, Other M style game for 3D(while fixing Other Ms many flaws) that takes place after Fusion. Ive never thought about a spin off like that, could be neat if done properly.

These ideas don't really gel with the underlying themes of Metroid. Portraying the Space Pirates as anything other than Always Chaotic Evil cheapens the character.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

You got me WAY too excited for a split second for nothing!

The narrative in metroid should be told through gameplay. (ex/ scanning lore) - not cinematic like other m

Games can and should tell stories and share ideas through their mechanics. This is the intrinsic element of the medium and this is how experiences should be crafted in video games. No company does this as well as Nintendo and their echoes from the past.

Read my second post, I want the story told thru gameplay with only a little cinematics, I agree Other M was way over the top

Ah yes - then I agree with you completely

I'd rather get a skyrim style rpg made by retro.

I would love another Prime game! or a new start but with FP view

    R.I.P Mr Iwata :'(

No thanks. If Retro returns to the Metroid world, I want them to really break from the mold as they did with Prime at its time of release. Totally new theme, world, villians, atmosphere, everything. Maybe 2-player co-op, an all-new look for Samus. Don't even call it Metroid. The only thing they should keep is the sci-fi setting, exploration, adventure, and power-up collection. But they should adapt some modern gaming elements, then take it to the next level. Metroid's theme and story was groundbreaking for 1986, but now it needs something fresh beyond even the Prime games. If Nintendo wants the series to be a true gaming pillar in terms of popularity, the series would need a little more 'Star Wars' and a little less 'Aliens'.

I don't, the Prime series was amazing, but it has run its course. I'd rather something new.

what do you suggest they do with the series, go back to 2D side-scroller? Other M style gameplay? Possibly behind the shoulder 3rd person?

Third person a la Uncharted could work, or a first person game with a different approach to Prime. (No lock-on, no Phazon, no losing and regaining the same old abilities, no "temple keys" game structure, etc)

Metroid could be a great fit for an Uncharted style game.  That's where Nintendo should take this franchise.
