Forums - Nintendo - Metroid Prime 4:Extinction

Honestly, instead of another Prime game, I sort of hope Retro is working on reviving the Star Fox brand because after so many games including a Star Fox 64 remake that neutered its own multiplayer I can't say I trust Nintendo or any Japanese developer outside of Platinum to do it justice.

Your ideas would work in literally any scifi type FPS of the modern era. Metroid is different and has its own strengths (exploration, atmosphere), and turning it into generic action would remove that uniqueness from gaming.

I do find it weird how people like you express their ideas for a /game/, an interactive medium, through some predetermined character narrative.

Prime was a trilogy that already ended. there could be a metroid with the same style but it wouldn't be called prime 4. that said,my complain about the prime titles is the focus on scaning. you waste to much time trying to scan everything (you need it for 100%) and that's a huge turn off.

I'd much prefer a real 2d (sprite only) metroid on 3ds and a third person 3d one on wii u.

Why would an optional mechanic be a core criticism of the game? 100% isn't really important unless you want it to be.

if one want 100%, it's boring as hell scaning everything. and even for those who are not completionists it's still necessary to scan things the whole time. it would be much better if scanning was in fact optional and didn't contributed to the 100 %.

Blah, you had me thinking there was a new Metroid game with that title! D:
But yeah I'd like to see another Prime as I only ever played Hunters and Corruption.

But "wanting" 100% implies you are having fun doing it? If you don't enjoy that part there's no compulsion to do so. You still get the vast majority of what the game has to offer. Do you complain when it's impossible/boring to get 100% in an MMO or Zelda or Skyrim?

Honestly if that's the greatest complaint you have about a game, it's near perfect.

i'm ashamed to say i purchased MP3 (twice) and never played it. >.

@kitler53:
Then why did you purchase it? O_o

I wouldn't mind another First Person Perspective Metroid game, so long as it isn't called Metroid Prime. Nothing against the name, the Prime Trilogy is up there with the original Phoenix Wright Trilogy as my favorite trilogy of all time, but calling it Prime 4 makes it seem like it's an addition to the Phazon Trilogy, when in reality it has nothing to do with it.

(Yes, I know, Hunters has the word Prime stuck on it for some stupid reason as well. Doesn't make that ok either).

If I had my way, though, I'd prefer another attempt at a 3rd Person Metroid in the style of Other M, only fixing all of the horrible mistakes that Other M made. No forced perspective switching to shoot missiles, no first person stand still and search sections, no long drawn out cutscenes/monologues, actually use a full controller instead of a Wii remote turned sideways, make exploration the focus again, etc. If you can ignore the story of Other M, I think it's a good game on it's own merits; and it still screwed up in many places along the way.

Control layout would be relatively simple. Use either the Gamepad or Pro Controller. Left stick to move, right stick to look around. RZ for shoot, LZ for jump, Tap L for lock on, Tap R to cycle missiles on or off. A/B/X/Y could be beam selectors, D-Pad could be visor selectors (and visors would work something like Detective Mode in the Arkham games), select would bring up the map (which could be display constantly on the Gamepad if that's being used), and start would pause the game.
