Forums - Nintendo - Pachter on Nintendo's E3 Plans: "Not sure how this is different."

Pachter doesn't know what's going on... This has been the same story for this guy for the past 8 years.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Are they having a large presentation in the same Kodak theater, with the same media, on same date/time?

yes.

They made it confusing when they didn't have to. All they needed to do was focus advertising on NDs and not the presentation. It would have been far less confusing and not given many people the idea that they are missing E3 entirely.

It doesn't matter that the "big show" is more of a quick promo with lots of on-hands time for the press vs a hour long promo event.

Except the content of that presentation is supposed to be radically different. Let's not pretend the criticism wouldn't have been thick and fast if they'd marched into that presentation and not given the usual E3 Conference without first alerting the media to that.

Except "that" content would have already been delivered via NDs prior to E3 and therefore the presentation would be a boost to the already known info... in fact in those NDs it would have made sense to then state the presentation will only focus on a quick recap and time for the media to play the games shown.

My way would have eliminated the E3-Nintendo confusion and still made everyone happy.

I guess Nintendo overestimated the powers of comprehension of the collective media.

A chain is only as strong as its weakest link...and since we are talking about video game "journalism" here, there are a lot of weak links...

If you say so.

We all knew Nintendo was going to be present at E3 and that they were going to do exact same things they have always been doing, the only difference is that there isn't a big flashy show at the Nokia theater.

The whole "NINTENDO ISN'T GOING TO E3" was only used by haters who didn't got their facts right.

everyone got their facts right but haters started spreading that lie to confuse people who didn't read the news directly.

Being so dismissive isn't doing anyone any favors here, the truth is some of us are still legitimately bummed out over no giant and flashy live conference to compare side by side with the other big two.

Of course we'll still see their games afterwards, never doubted that for a minute, but we would've gotten that with the above mentioned big hype conference as well like we always have after the conference.

What Nintendo is doing is brillian, tailoring their presentations for different groups. Much better than one conference with a little bit of everything which may fail

His point is if I might be so bold. That Nintendo isn't substituting a few smaller events for the larger event that they have cancelled. Which isn't the case at all no matter how many people insinuate otherwise. These smaller events have always been part of their presence at the show. In other words they aren't new, and further more he is saying that Nintendo hasn't even reformatted them to make up for the loss of their main event.

I don't think anyone who knows what they are talking about. Assumed that Nintendo wouldn't be having their standard business meetings, or that they wouldn't still be having their private booth sessions with gaming journalists. It should be noted however that every small company that will be attending will have those. Real powers in the industry do have large press events. Even the bigger third party publishers have such public events.

So for Nintendo to not be having an event. Sends a very strong message with many negative connotations. Specifically that they are no longer a real power in the industry. It means they will be negotiating from a position of weakness, and stating that they wouldn't be having the event has had a ripple effect forward into time. It creates just one more negative stigma for them, and for their product. It gives license to people to say that they are scared, don't have anything to show, don't know what they are doing, or are just indifferent about their product.

None of which is good for potential customers to hear, or even for their supporters for that matter. Lets call it what it really is a pride obliterating bitch slap. You can't honestly tell me that their not having a press conference hasn't left you with some real doubts about their future.
