Forums - Gaming - What are your thoughts on Activision-Blizzard?

I dont love nore hate them. I usewd to love Bilzzard, and every game of theirs was a day one purchase for me. But after the release fo D3 and SC2 and the online requirements for both they dropped far down on my list.

Blizzard makes some of my favorite games in the world. I enjoy them throughout their history and they still make excellent games. Even if I grew out of starcraft and I think Starcraft was better than the 2nd one, I am still a huge fan. They make great games. The expansion set business model is fair because it takes work to add new campaigns and units/balancing, so I think it's only fair to ask people to pay for it. Otherwise DLC is evil too. Of course there's a balance, the carrot on a stick thing is a question of balance. All in all I find Blizzard has always been fair with its pricing, even Battle.Net was free for the longest time and still is, that was always something I was happy about.

Activision makes some of my favorite games too. I loved their music games, I don't care how many iterations there are I just buy the ones I want and scrap the rest. Tony Hawk's was also one of my favorite games. Some of their series could be less milked in order to ensure more new great content, but their content is good so I won't complain. COD is also a game I enjoy, especially multiplayer.

They also are fair, and make most their games available on all platforms, and they know how to make money. I'm okay with them.

the thing i hate most about them is Bobby Kotick lol, and CoD making the "every year one sequel" a trend, besides sport games.

hmmmm.... I honestly can't remember the last time I paid for a game from Actilizzard, I'm pretty neutral about the company, but I'm just not that much into their games apparently O_O. Though I think I did get Singularity when it was like a few bucks on Steam, yes that's it, that's the one game!

I like them. They make few games but most of them are high quality titles. They support their games for years and years by keeping the servers open unlike other publishers.

The expensive DLC practices they are criticized for is actually an option to the consumer. You don't have to spend $50 on DLC for COD as a new one is going to be out in less than 10 months.

Also the Call of Duty games are often made fun of by people who don't even play them. I've seen fans of other franchises saying there is nothing new in COD every year. Well if they mean that the games still include guns and running around shooting others. Yes, than there is nothing new. Honestly though they refine the formula. How much can they really change every year when people are happy with the current set up?

They killed the guitar hero/Rockband genre. Never liked it. So good on them. Also Bobby Kotick barely speaks now. Someone smart at Activision probably told him that he'd lose millions if he keeps on saying idiotic things every few weeks.

I like Blizzard but they have fallen off a bit lately imho. I also don't like that D3 is always-online but I will try the console version out.

Activision, I love CoD. They also make damn good Transformers games (when they aren't based on the shitty movies). They also have a couple games that imho are kind of hidden gems in Blur and Singularity. What I like most about Activision though is they have the biggest franchise in gaming right now and yet they have still not incorporated any of the shenanigans EA does like online passes, day one DLC, skimping on content in the game, or quick unlock microtransactions. They could make a killing off of stuff like this in CoD and yet they do not. They deliver a quality game every year stuffed with content and don't nickle and dime gamers in the process.

They also have Bungie now.. we'll see where that goes.

Just like EA they give me some good games and some bad ones. They make some good choices and then some eh choices.

And yes I do like Call of Duty. I havent bought Bo2 because Im a little played out on them but I dont feel it is right for gamers on forums to trash call of duty the way they do either.

They are okay, but for such a big publisher they put out too few great games (compared to EA).
Blizzard alone is better in that regard than all other Activision studios combined.

1st tier:
Call of Duty

2nd tier:
Skylanders
Prototype
.. Hero
Transformers

that's pretty poor.

Guitar Hero degraded to 2nd tier and Tony Hawk completely destroyed.

Even worse than EA.

Activision: CoD is fairly solid every year. Treyarch & Infinity Ward games feel different from each other. Spider-Man & Transformers games are good. Deadpool game coming soon.
Nothing particularly offensive about them unlike EA who fills me with rage.

Blizzard have lost their way. They haven't yet reached Bioware levels of suck but they're on their way.
