Forums - Gaming - PS4 To Have TRILUMINOS

Ha ha, way to spin a cheap solution as a 'feature.'

They could have used better LED's, but that cost more.

The sad thing is many of the general public will actually fall for it as an 'improvement.' Ah, marketing - convincing people stuff is magically better than other stuff, 2nd oldest profession in the world.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Top 50 'most fun' game list coming soon!

Its an improvment (Over LCD/LED). It gives you an almost OLED like color range with LCD/LED technology. While not superior to OLED its better than whats currently here.

But I guess it will be obsolete once Samsung/LG release mass market OLED TVs.

How would you say it compares to the company that double the number of green pixels?  I think Sharp does that.

My point is if you use 'whiter' LED's you don't need a filter.

And yes, probably Samsun or someone will start making more affordible OLEDs and it will not matter.

The problem is LEDs are not good enough, always. If they could use superior ones and be cheaper as OLED they would but they can't. Its a general LED problem.

Not sure how this compares to more green subpixels. The messed up white still exists for them too.

I have to see it before I can give my opinion. As far as (the few) reactions, I read on forums, go people seem to like Triluminos.

My next TV is going to be 72 inch(+) 4k (OLED) anyway. I won't update before that. Not going to buy another 1080p LCD anymore.

I can see a place for Triluminos in the market: LCD LED displays are already dirt cheap, actually cheaper than old LCDs had become when LEDs were launched, and durability and robustness are good. "Cheaper" OLED displays will be less expensive than now, but they won't be actually "cheap", and Triluminos LED (and other ehnanced LED techs, obviously) could easily fill the gap between cheap LED and "cheap" OLED and get that market. Later "Old" LEDs will be phased out and enhanced LEDs, including Triluminos, will become the entry level.

I've been reading up a bit more on triluminos. Someone with better knowledge wanna fill me in on the pros and cons? I mean, Sony was trying to pioneer oleds, but abandoned them. Then they came up with this trilominos display. But most here are saying oled is the way to go. Is there a reason?

I wonder how much the Ps4 will cost if they are adding so much new tech into it

I bet it will be cheaper than the PS3 at launch, I am thiking 450 dollars in USA and 1100 dollars here in Brazil.

My grammar errors are justified by the fact that I am a brazilian living in Brazil. I am also very stupid.

so from what i understand if i have a tv without this technology it wont effect how PS4 colors are

Yep. Also a XBOX 360 on a Bravia TV will probably have better colors than white backlight LEDs. The internal support will only enhance it in a few situations.

Also this is a cheaper way to get the colors of a real RGB-backlight. But a well-made RGB-backlight LED TV will still be better, but the difference will be smaller.

I always find comparison photos like the one in the OP for tech like this funny, because I can see the difference on my current monitor... so my current monitor can display "Triluminos"? Reminds me of the "Quatron" ads. lol.

Or DVDs with a BluRay-Trailer showing the difference.

I'll never understand how people can market "More colours" when you get all colours from Red, Green and Amber.

Current display tech cannot display all possible colors (shades of colors). Especially not at the same time. These 'retina display', 'Super-AMOLED' and now 'Triluminos' are takes on better looking colors in mass market display tech.
