I tell people, but they don't believe me. Everyone thinks I'm a casual gamer!!
People very close to me, like my gf and my best friend know the extent of my gaming addiction (500 games baby and growing), but they don't really care. Most people who have lived with me at one point know that I have a weird taste in games, and usually because I like such unique games, it tends to get my close friends into gaming a bit LOL. Got my gf, and a room mate into XenoBlade, and my dad watched me play a good about of Fallout 3. Had it not been so violent, he may have played it himself.
To be honest, I don't play games that much, I only beat manage to beat a dozen games a year or so (Long RPG's, but still), and when I go out I talk about non gaming stuff, so I can see why people think I'm a casual gamer. I also rarely play any hardcore games with friends, I usually play Mario Party/Kart/Golf with beers which adds to the casual gamer look. I am pro at racing games, but I'm also nuts about cars, so again I look more like a casual gamer, even though the bulk of my gaming is playing RPG's.

All of my close friends know I like to play video games and most of them do as well. When I'm talking to someone I don't know, I wont bring it up. Usually not a good conversation starter when talking to women lol.
I used to keep it a secret, but I now let anyone know because it is who I am and it shouldn't prevent me from enjoying other people's company.
If it comes up yeah. Why wouldn't I? If people have bad perceptions they need to know at least one awesome person who is.
Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

yep if it comes up im not scurred to tell people I play games. Most people who have known me for a while know that I used to play lots of games. However not so much anymore. All i ever have time to play is League of Legends anymore as my Fiancee demands the majority of my time with wedding plans and what not. Hopefully once were married I can have a bit more time
Long Live SHIO!
If it's with a friend, then they'll probably already know. If it's someone new or an acquaintance, then I will shape what I say to get the most benefit from our brief conversation. If it turns out that they are a heavy gamer, then I will tell them that I am too. If it turns out that they aren't really interested in gaming, then I'll just say I play games sometimes and try to shift the conversation to something more mutual.
It depends - sometimes I'm rather 'out N proud with my gaming. Mostly when people say it's for losers or don't understand and I can point out something like history or problem solving skills I've learned from gaming.
Most always I have positive responses, unless they or someone nearby hears and decides they don't like the platforms I play on and want to discusses how much better theirs is. I often find those people lacking of general knowledge, obtuse and get away as soon as I can from them.
Only family and friends know. I wouldn't just randomly tell people in the street
