No, you're not a monster. Unfortunately, we've been conditioned to think that whether or not a game (or any media for that matter) is fun or good is purely objectively measured, when in fact all opinions are subjective. What you may find boring, another might find fun, and vice-versa. But the internet (and message boards are probably the biggest contributor) is constantly reinforcing the idea that quality and enjoyment should somehow have a consensus among everyone.
We don't decide our opinions; they just happen. They are a product of our own tastes, ideas, and environment. The late Roger Ebert once said "A good review should tell you whether or not you would like a movie (or a game) regardless of whether or not the reviewer did." If you don't enjoy a game, that doesn't make you a bad person, or make it a bad game. It just means what appeals to one person may not appeal to another.
Ignorance of this fact is what leads to message board arguments, which are ridiculous, because you can't use arguments to change subjective opinion. If people argued you were a monster, would that make you less bored with Mass Effect?
If other people like Mass Effect, good for them. But that doesn't mean you need to feel bad for having different opinions.
Not at all. The first one is a good RPG but suffers from some problems, among those are incredibly lazy side quest design that renders the whole "freedom to explore deep space" entirely useless, some incredibly poor texture work and animations here and there, some really bad voice acting in certain places and characters, severely annoying loading times and endless corridors to run down during missions, poor cover mechanics during shootouts etc.
The second one does the shooting better but everything else worse, there's nothing more boring than scanning a planet and then pressing a button to shoot a probe into the surface to harvest resources, it's the least interactive, sedate bullshit I've ever seen in any RPG. All weapons share ammo, no proper inventory, incredibly poor AI, powers are largely useless compared to simply shooting things dead, upgrades are too easily gained and the overall gameplay smacks of hand-holding and drone objectives.
To top it all off, the story is nothing revolutionary at all, mostly run of the mill sci-fi with run of the mill aliens with silly armors and scaled faces and tattoo's. The way it is told is decent, but the dialogue interface leaves little room for nuances, there's either good or bad, just like every other game that pretends to feature true morals.
All in all, still not having played the third game (I play on PC, mind you), the series is good but no where near fantastic, reviewers overlooked some pretty massive flaws and glaring design blunders in the two first ones. I'd rank Mass Effect and the first sequel well below games such Gothic or even Skyrim, they defeat themselves on some levels and Bioware are too caught up in "being mature" to produce truly compeling content lately and their new action-oriented style ruins the overall experience for me.
Mass Effect 1 is the best in the series, if you can't get into it you probably shouldn't bother with the other games unless you enjoy cover shooting a lot.
Ongoing bet with think-man: He wins if MH4 releases in any shape or form on PSV in 2013, I win if it doesn't.

ME1 was the best one, imo. Though the mako exploration is boring as hell.
sequel I felt was a slight letdown. I didn't like the new gameplay as much because they just toned down the RPG-elements.
third one was one of the most disappointing games this generation for me, mostly cause of the crappy ending.
Different games for different people - not everyone is going to enjoy everything. Some of my favourite games get a lot of hate and I'm fine with that - as long as I enjoy and understand them for what they are.

Games can and should tell stories and share ideas through their mechanics. This is the intrinsic element of the medium and this is how experiences should be crafted in video games. No company does this as well as Nintendo and their echoes from the past.

Second Mass Effect game was the best, I score a 9.5/10. The first game was good, 8/10. The third game was a huge step down from the second game and the ending was an epic failure, 6/10.

It could be worse.. you could love it and then play the third one and get the worst ending in any game I've ever played.
after more then 1 year it still pisses me off how bad it was, well atleast for me.
If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing
