After the raving reviews from both magazines and users I decided to give this game a try. I bought the trilogy for PS3 and I just finished the mission in Virmire in the original Mass Effect.

Well, I'm kind of bored. I guess I don't care about the story that much for it carry the game. I don't find the game mechanics enjoyable enough by themselves. I was enjoying it quite a lot at the beginning, talking to NPCs in the Citadel and doing all the side quests. I like sci-fi and the setting and lore seemed genuinely interesting. But the story and lore can't keep me entertained for the 25h or so I put into this game, after a while it starts to drag despite some interesting moments in the story.

The rest of the game is just alright. I'm starting to really hate the Mako and the rest of the combat is... eh. I guess there's some depth there that I'm not digging for. It's probably my fault because I think I'm not really into WRPGs, I thought this game might have convinced me and I was very interested in the sci-fi setting, but I guess it's not for me.

That's it, just sharing my thoughts about it. Do you think ME2 will change my mind or should I quit the trilogy?

Nah, that's completely reasonable. The original Mass Effect had competely half-baked shooter gameplay, and the Mako was fucking torturous. But I did somehow fall in love with the characters and universe anyway, and I assure you that Mass Effect 2 is much, much, muchmuchmuch better if you do decide to continue with the series.

As badgenome said. The shooting mechanics, use of cover and sprint are all improved in the 2nd game. I finished the first game in 20 hours so i guess i didn't do everything you are doing.

Also Mako is gone in 2nd game as it was just horrible to control. Keep at it. I've yet to start the 3rd one. Maybe sometime this week. Enjoy :)

You should get the death-penalty

I played the first game for a bit but didn't really like the gameplay. I didn.t go too far into the story but if the gameplay isn't great its a no no for me.

That alone is a huge improvement, lol.

I guess I'll finish the 1st one and start ME2 at least, since both you and Badge think it's leagues better. Thanks.

The first Mass Effect is the best one, so I'm afraid it's all downhill from here. That is, unless you really enjoy sub par third person shooters, then ME2 will be right up your alley :D

I finished the story in 14 hours and the side mission are not worth it.
So you could've finished the game already a long time ago instead of driving around with the Mako >.>


Mass Effect 2 is not a WRPG, so you might like it more.

not really, it's easily the most overrated series from this gen

I only did two side missions (with their sub-side-missions) with the Mako but then stopped. Those took ages though -_- Now I just hate the mandatory mako sections.

I also spent my sweet time in the citadel at the beginning. Oh, and I forgot to mention that there was a "glitch" where my Mako got stuck in a place where I couldn't move it anymore, and I had to do an entire Mako section on foot. It was a mandatory section too, so that also took some time.

Now I've been cruising through the main story for the last couple of planets, so I don't expect it to take too long.
