Could you show me the software numbers you were using. It seems that you might have missed my previous post asking about those.

No, they couldn't have. Simply because the casuals have walked away.

Nintendo have been famous for their videogames and consoles waaay longer than sony and microsoft. |
Yeah, and Nokia was famous for its cell phones for a very long time much before Apple and Samsung. Also, it's not that long since the British empire was one of the most powerful empires in the world. The world changes rapidly these days; what there was 20 years ago isn't very relevant anymore. It's pretty obvious Gugerface was focusing on more recent events, even if he phrased himself badly.
Fact: Nintendo is most likely going to have a hard time this time. The Wii got an excellent start, the Wii U did not. They failed to bring the casual gamers aboard this time and soon they'll have even fiercer competition from the PS3 and the 360. As for core gamers, Sony and MS's next consoles will be coming this year and it's painfully obvious whether it's Nintendo or Sony/MS core gamers will choose (with the exception of Nintendo fans). If Nintendo is to succeed, it needs to turn the tide by the summer of next year, preferably much earlier as it'll get harder and harder as time passes. Nintendo needs some system-sellers soon.
Oh yeah. Sorry about that. I was looking at these numbers for my previous post about total HW & SW sales and recited therm wrong from my head. Sorry.
I still don't think they'll be able to outsell the Wii SW until the release of the Nextbox.

I don't think that either, but I am fairly certain that they will catch up next year. There are still a lot of games coming to 360.
Nintendo has won console generations in three different decades, and have sold 651 million hardware units and over 4 billion software units. This is the most that any videogame console manufacturer has sold by far. in addition, throughout the 80's and 90's, Nintendo headlined the rise of the videogame industry, and Mario became a more recognizable figure than Mickie Mouse. To say Nintendo has only had 15 minutes of fame is in the realm of being aggressively ignorant.
I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

The big issue right now is that Nintendo has not released or announced any compelling games aside from this elusive "X" game which they are not telling us anything about. Only a 2D Mario game that seems like the follow up to an extremely disappointing 3DS title. |
They would have much larger third party support if they had simply made more of a PC-like console with a reasonable amount of horsepower under the hood. It's not even that expensive these days, they'd have to give up their dream of a tiny console that only consumers 33 watts of electricity though, that would have been impossible.
As far as Nintendo's own games, I don't think they really care what the horsepower of a system is, you'd have NSMBU, but it would run in 1080p with better anti-aliasing, but otherwise would probably be the same exact game. That wouldn't add a ton of development time.
What you WOULD get would've been games like BioShock 2, MGS Rising, Dead Space, maybe even (gulp) SimCity during this period, because it would have been easy for devs to port the (superior) PC versions. It would also get all the PS4/720 multiplats by virtue of having a headstart and a bigger userbase for the first year at minimum.
It could have basically been the Playstation 2 of this generation.
I don't even think casuals like the uber-expensive giant sized controller. It's the anti-thesis of the Wiimote, which was simple, inviting, and chic-stylized. And its cheeeap, so they could've thrown in a Pro Controller shell for the hardcores and then pumped the rest of the hardware budget into the chipset.
Too early to call.
What make people believe that both PS4 and Xbox720 will sell like hotcakes? Don´t people learn from the past ?
Both consoles will be expensive and will have a slow start and Nintendo is likely to have better sales at the first moment, with the advantage of low price. It doesn´t mean that they will "win" this next generation, but they´re likely to have a head start.
The market won´t be as acessible in 2013 and 2014 as it was in 2010 or 2011. Consoles will again become niche and won´t sell as much as the last generation Times are changing and consumers are changing. Lots of developers (and the manufacturers as well) are struggling. We will see fewer AAA titles in the future. Casuals are flocking to tablets and smartphones, PC gaming is on the rise again.

Well they certainly didn't get off to the kind of start that most Nintendo fans were expecting, with their mid-Wii generation predictions of Nintendomination for multiple generations to come. Which was always wishful thinking given the demographics of the Wii owners.
Remains to be seen whether Wii U can pull a PS3 and take a lackluster start and turn it into a success. Or if it will be a repeat of the N64: solid but not great. Or a Gamecube: dismal failure. All 3 are possibilities. I'm not sure whether they are equal possibilities or of one is more likely than the others. I'm leaning towards N64-like sales myself.
I wouldn't be surprised, given Wii U is 1/2 a generation behind PS4, and probably Nextbox, if this is a short generation for Wii U and a Wii U 2 comes out after 4 years (i.e. in 3 1/2 years time), which is a half gen step ahead of PS4/Nextbox.

or, nintendo could have made the most 3rd party friendly console in the world that's on par with the ps4 in every way and 3rd party's would still just not bother. I think wii u or more specifically ,nintendo will always be in the same situation no matter what they do. The problem is the whole game industry is run by close minded nerd boys whose attitudes are just as bad as many people on these forums. The term '3rd party (or 'core') games don't sell on nintendo systems' is self fulfilling prophesy.
