It likely already is less than a million but given how far out the site is at the moment on its tracking and the fact Sony aren't releasing accurate shipping figures (for the PS3 on its own) we really have no idea precisely what the gap is as there is no reliable data.

It only matters to Sony fans (for obvious reasons and that's not a slight) , that's not to say its not an achievement but its madness to pretend fans of other consoles will remotely care what happens once the generation is done and dusted. It's forum ammunition, it's not going to magically make anybody's gaming experience on their consoles this generation appear better or worse. For the record the NDS "passing" the PS2 was only important to Nintendo and Sony fans, nobody else cared and certainly nobody in the real world gave a damn.
In summary I disagree that it will "matter a lot"

but people still do care but they are going to try to act like they dont while trying to pass off the illusion that ps guys are the only individuals who care about the subject.
Its funny because I remember people talking about the 360 surpassing the wii in the uk(or America) not too long ago but we will see..

PS3 might outsell, yes, but I can see stingray (mini-60) could have quite an impact to sales but we'll see. But what about this more and more games and new ip's? In 2014 Sony will most likely concentrate on PS4 and hope that 3rd-party-support will be good for PS3. If Sony keeps supporting PS3 the PS4 will suffer, easy as that. They can't support both platforms with the same quality and quantity.

It's like awarding sony the gold medal for crossing the finish lines. While competitors have already finished the race long time ago and readying themselves for the next competition, Sony just scrapes over to finish the race. Congratulations

they will have to manage a transition carefully, not everyone will be able to afford ps4 straight away the price will drop for ps3 definatly and i think it would be a good idea to release a steady flow of ps4 exculives in 1st year
