nope.  More like Nintendo sprinted out to the lead and is crawling to the finish line now with only a few meters left, Microsoft got to the track first and is now seeing Sony, who started off at a powerwalk, jogging briskly up to catch them.  Meanwhile on another track a new competition is starting with another guy on the Nintendo team starting off at a steady pace while MS and Sony are stretching and still watching the other guys on their team.  If people will insist on sports analogies this is the most apt one I can come up with.

It doesn't matter if it passes it. Xbox was the far more succesful console and has sold vastly more games. The Xbox 360 has tripled the previous Xbox sales while PS3 hasnt even sold half of the PS2.

Not to mention that the Kinect also outsold the Move which was also a failure.

I actually expect most Xbox fans to be humble here. Much of the time, their posts reflect the nature of the situation - they know it's happening sooner or later. I'd say this has been a winning gen for all involved, but Microsoft mostly in my eyes. They had the most to gain and did just that.

Still, by Jan 2014, the PS3 may already have the lead of about 1 million or so. We will see.

There was a time when people cared.

It saddens me reading through old threads like that, seeing so many familiar posters with their own unique personalities and posting styles that are now gone or banned. All the avatars and sigs carefully chosen to reflect what a poster wanted to portray, now sealed away in the recesses of vgchartz, like virtual statues that collect no dust, only fade from memory with the passing of time into complete obscurity. Their accounts show only the history of a passing interest that at one point abruptly ended. Shining a light in there is like revisiting an old classroom as an adult you spent years in as a teen. You read a few posts and get a 'feel' for what the website was like back then, the topics, the predictions, the banter.

So much changes with time and so many forget.

but people still do care but they are going to try to act like they dont while trying to pass off the illusion that ps guys are the only individuals who care about the subject.

 

Its funny because I remember people talking about the 360 surpassing the wii in the uk(or America) not too long ago but we will see..

You mean you remember people talking about the 360 overtaking the Wii to take FIRST place in the UK and US (btw it already happened in the UK and that thread went off very nicely, calmly, no drama, no over the top chest beating bullshit.). 

I full expect the PS3 to take first place in Europe and I will say well done.  Celebrating 2nd place is a bit weak though.


Correct. There were talks of the 360 overtaking Wii recently ;)

 

I guess there was no drama because the ninty fans didnt try to act brand new about it when it happened..

Its no secret that after PS4 and Xbox come out, the spotlight will officially be taken off Wii, 360, and PS3. They will be officially outdated and obsolete.The only people who will care will be the lingering PS fans who feel like redemption must be earned, no matter when it happens.

Given PS2 performance, you would be celebrating lowering the bar. Congratulations.

And from the business side, 360 is now in full profit mode (overtaken all 360 losses), and Wii was always profitable. PS3 has about 2-3 billion in losses that still need to be made up for.

None of this has anything to do with what I said. Read more carefully next time instead of posting nonsense.

1) I couldn't care less which console manufacturer sells more units.

2) I couldn't care less which console manufacturer makes the most profit.

3) I haven't at any time celebrated anything; in fact, I've even voiced my complaint against all these fucking "Gap is only ______" threads.

This isn't about subjectivity (which I know you struggle to comprehend as it is the only arguments you form), it's about objectivity. If console A sells the most units, there is no rebuttal. It's simply a fact.

There is no "hey guys, we stopped selling our console so none of yours sales count anymore."

A sale is a sale and it counts no matter how much time passes - FACT.

After cutting out the fat, this seems to be your core sentiment.

Sales are sales and there is no denying that. The timing/relevancy of such milestone can diminish it however. Lack of profitability and PS2 performance can do the same thing.Its NOT that it doesn't count, its that people just won't care this late in the game.

Just go easy on the confetti and champaigne, because anybody celebrating would be celebrating lowering the bar.
