Forums - Gaming - PS3 360 gap less than a million next week ?

If VGChartz is known to be undertracked, then how do we know the PS3 hasn't already surpassed the 360? Less than a month after Microsoft announced 70 million 360's sold, Sony announces 70 million sold. Everyone against Sony will say "Sony's stating shipped" but is that a fact or is it speculation? What about Microsoft? When they make announcements is it shipped or sold?

Also, I doubt the 360 sold 77 million considering that since the beginning of this year, VGChartz has been pulling the results straight from NPD when they've released and Microsoft announced 70 million sold in October. So they've sold seven million in seven months?  Although November they sold more than a million.

That's not a big deal... the shipment over Wii is... and yeah it will happen.

I will love the meltdowns here when the third place console ends this gen in the Number One spot .

Has that ever happend in the past?

This late in the gen, it doesnt even matter anymore. The PS3 made a comeback from the brink of the abyss, that should be the real story.

No.

All the others generations the best selling console reach the first spot after two or three years (SNES was the most long time because the Mega Drive was launched almost two years early).

If PS3 do that... it will be after 10 years (10 year plan says hi).

It matters more to some than others. You obviously don't care but there are some who will be counting down the weeks and checking the sales for adjustments on a daily basis sooner rather than later. It will be quite an achievement, (or trophy really ) . Wether or not it will happen by the nexbox and ps4 release is another matter entirely. It probably will happen and Kudos to Sony. Ps3 still lost a crap load of marketshare that it probably won't recapture by the end but let's face it, it could have been much worse.

It really does nothing .. even if PS3 will be no.1. By that time, who will care ?. Yes, sony fans will woa it, but that`s all.. What will be remembered this generation ? Only that SONY was so dumb at start, fail at middle of the race and at the end, they still loose something around 50% of gamers and loose against XBOX. Nothing more, nothing less.. BUT.. they really change and lets say it straight - it could be worse. Oh.. and of course, PS4 looks like a promissing hw, so lets check it out..

The more I read the "console flamewars", the more i love my dreamcast :D

Proud owner of: Dreamcast, PSP, PSOne, PS2Slim, Xbox, Xbox360, Nintendo DSLite, GB color, GB Advanced, Nintendo Wii

PS3 surpassing 360 and Wii matters a lot, its the console that was branded a flop 5 years ago.

PS2 is 13 years old and look how many nintendo fans argued that NDS surpassed the PS2, which it didn't, so yes PS3 surpassing both 360 and Wii within 3-4 years time is gonna matter.

Sony may pass xbox 360 worldwide, but not in the UK and USA.

The only way PS3 surpasses Xbox in the UK and USA is if Microsoft pulls Xbox 360 out of retail before Sony pulls the PS3 out of retail. Which may be for a long time yet, as the PS2 is still in retail.

The company that should be celebrating is Microsoft. The first Xbox sold 24 million lifetime.

The PS3 selling this much was always a possibility once Sony dropped the price.

The thing is PS3 has not been profitable for Sony. While the Xbox 360 has been profitable for Microsoft.

The one billion dollar question is where would the PS3 be today if Sony choose to make a profit and kept the
PS3 price at $400.

Another question would be what if Microsoft chose to go for sales instead of profits, where would Xbox 360 sales
be today?

Microsoft chose profitability over sales. Which is crucial if you want to stay in business.

Just some points for all you Playstation fanboys to think about.

Excuses after excuses, it's going to be fun when the failure of the PS3 pass the sussessful xbox 360.

I have more fun playing my games but obviously other things are more funny to some people. Sometimes I ask myself how much some posters actually play and how much they are posting in this forum...
