It's not all about sales, it's also about profitability.

Microsoft chose to be profitable.

It's not an (EXCUSE) it simply good business.

Microsoft lost billions on the first Xbox and decided not to repeat that.

So once again I am not making an excuse, just trying to make the point that Microsoft chose to make a profit over winning the hardware race.

It would be nice to have both profit and hardware sales, which would make good headlines, but just remember that it is not over yet.

Time will tell what happens.

Imagine how many of those XBox sales were RROD related. Just a thought.

This argument should go into the top ten most arbitrary, pointless argumentive points ever made in regards to gaming.

OT: Either sometime October/early November or the beginning of next year the PS3 should finally surpass the 360.

Hopefully soon. If we are going by recent shipment numbers PS3 should be a LOT closer.
Give credit where credit is due: 360 is doing damn well, just not as well as PS3 has been World Wide. 360 did well compared to the original XBox and made MS more money (most likely) but PS3 will likely edge out the 360 in sales sometime next year or the year after... depending on what MS does with price cuts and software support.

@Bold:  Umm, I don't think anybody in this thread said anything about it passing it in the U.S. and Uk.  

And like you know that MS is choosing profitability over sales.  No one knows the choices going through MS.  

And the ps3 has been profitable for Sony since 2010.  Though not enough to help recoup all the losses that they have had over the years.

god forbid we be able to celebrate something without someone coming in and bringing up these same tired points.  If Sony had stayed at $400 they would have far less systems to sell software on.  It's been well documented and obvious that 360 was an improvement, doesn't mean passing a rival isn't worth celebrating, especially when every gen is a clean slate so there was no advantage coming in for PS.  In fact it's amazing it's sold as well as it has considering it was about twice as much as the competition, had a terrible architecture, released later, and had no system sellers till 08 (great games but not mass market hitters).  It's been strong first party and free online carrying the load and it's finally going to reflect in sales.

True.  Except we'll be getting these same excuses from the more seasoned users on this site.  As if the PS3 should get an asterick by it's sales numbers when it passes the 360.  *Doesn't really count because of initial financial losses and lost marketshare from the PS2 era.
