Forums - Gaming - So... who decides to buy Atlus if Index (parent company) goes under?

Well if it came down to an auction of IP assets in a bankruptcy settlement:
Bandai-Namco would be the most likely.
Sega would also be a good chance.
Squeenix doesn't have the money to buy anything. lol

The problem is that Atlus as a company doesn't actually exist since a few years ago, it's been integrated into Index. Index has just kept the name label for those games because it's known and markets better that way.

Agreed. Similar with Tales.

So what happens then if Index goes down? Selling off IPs rather than a studio acquisition?

You can usually get more money by selling it off as a package deal. The only time you'd really raffle off a company piecemeal is if no one thinks the whole is worth buying. See THQ.

Well other than Persona and SMT their other IPs aren't really worth THAT much.

Etrian being an example. Niche as fk.

True. But hey, you want Persona and SMT? Gotta take all these too. And if you don't want the bundle, someone else probably will.

Hopefully Nintendo would pick them up and id love it if they somehow got Platinum Games, those 2 plus Monolith Soft and Retro would give Nintendo some great teams

Hopefully Square doesn't get them. Almost everyone competent in Square Enix Japan no longer works there, and can't be guaranteed whether some of the major Atlus employees quit or not.

that's pretty much the case with any company, anywhere, anytime.

I hope Nintendo takes them. They just seem like the right place for jrpgs and the type of games Index/Atlus makes. I mean they pretty much have all their games on the 3ds already, with just Persona missing and thats it.

I would so rather the Persona Series NOT become what the SMT overhead has been on the DS/3DS line. They are horrible 1st Person view turn based battles (something I have always despised since Dragon Quest) and are so far inferior to what the Persona's offer tech wise its not even funny. :/

Sony and Atlus have been very good for each other. Their bread winners are exclusive to the PS platforms at thoe mo, so I would Hope Sony would care enough for them to shell out whatever bargain bin price they would go for if such a situation did arrise. Or possibly SE or Namco. I find a Nintendo acquisition highly unlikely out of all the suggested(or maybe that is just wishful thinking).

PSN:Forevercloud (looking for Soul Sacrifice Partners!!!)

I hope Nintendo buys them. Atlus makes some pretty good games.
