It's getting too off-topic now.

Please stop talking about the PS4 in a Steam/Windows thread.

I'm talking about Steam GPU use... this thread is about the "Latest STEAM survey".

I just make a comparison because the guys here things the PC gamers use super strong GPUs in their computers.

I thought the point of consoles is to have a closed box where devs can pin point the hardware while PCs are open boxes where more flexibility and ways to add brute force. I mean, if you want to count the number of PCs that can outperform the PS4, the whole box has to apply to the equation, not just the GPU itself. Also, not counting the 580 is also silly because 2 of those cards will also burn the PS4 even if it doesn't have the same architecture, it's almost like you don't know the topic you are trying to present. How do you even discuss something without broad knowledge of the topic is beyond me, but that's what the internet is for I guess.

PS4 GPU in raw power is between HD 7870 and HD 7850... I'm sure it can outperform a single GTX 580.

Oh I'm not going to disagree with that assesment at all because optimized games on the PS4 will very much outperform a 580 IMO, but I did list 2 cards and not 1 in my reply which then becomes a different story on that front with driver optimizations from Nvidia. SLI and Crossfire have been part of the PC industry since 2004-2005 and have since then evolved much so many PC gamers have adopted to the technology, I was simply stating that the Steam list won't help with showing that unless they have a list for that too.

1% of Steam users using Linux is actually huge given Steam's userbase size and Linux's total unsuitability for gaming due to the state of the graphics drivers.

Windows 8 gaining 1% per month, that's below PC replacement level assuming a 5 yearly upgrade for the kind of person who plays Steam games. Shows there is no especial demand for it.

That's why I really want Steambox to do well, because then we might finally be able to have an alternative to Windows since I'm getting a little tired of the BS that MS is heading towards to.

I agree but even when I was a PC gamer (in the GTX 280 / HD 4000 era) I neve like to compare SLI/Crossfire GPUs with single GPUs... the scalle of these techs are average and there are a lot of dependent of the game/drivers.

I always will be prefer a single gpu over a dual CF/SLI.

The Steam on Linux is new? I think a year old... no?

Edit - About the Windows 8 it seems more a tablet/pad/cellphone OS than a gamer OS.

No, it was launched in February and this hw survey shows all the types of Linux for the first time.

But it was in response to the first post which said the others were "irrelevant".

The biggest recent trend is probably people using Intel integrated graphics more. With Haswell and Kaveri we may well see discrete graphics cards become altogether niche.

February this year? This is really new lol.

I think the trend in the next years is the integrated graphcis (APU) dominate the market... Intel and AMD have the tech (AMD better in GPU terms and Intel better in CPU terms) and nVidia is trying to go into some ARM + GPU integrated thing.

The mobile/pad will grow to stop the PC market grow too... I think more and more things like Kaveri will happen.

The strong and super entusiastics GPUs will a be a thing of the past... more and more the PC world is moving to high power efficiency than pure performance hardwares

How do you find information like this - still noob to the Steam Interface ;x

how you see it in steam? mouse over shop->stats and then on the right site you can click the survey
