Basically porting an UE4 game to the Wii U will take too much time/work/money that it won't be worth it. They're better off using UE3.

In other words, you didn't read anything in this thread other than the first post and the one you quoted below and you aren't familiar with how game engines work.

Anyone else?

No, I didn't read EVERY SINGLE COMMENT in this thread. Was that a requirement?

No, I'm not a tech expert and I don't know exactly how game engines work. But I don't need to. Wii U won't get many(if any) UE4 games. It's already not getting UE3 games like some had said so once the industry makes that transistion into UE4, ports will be even more rare. Wii U as it will be in the position as the original Wii was.

The only way I see developers taking their time/effort/money to  scale their game down to work on Wii U, is if the Wii U suddenly starts selling like hotcakes. This goes for all games, not just UE4.

This is where it would help to read the whole thread.

The Wii used a fixed function GPu and s single core CPU.  That meant that porting games and game engines was a royal pain in the ass.    But the Wii U has the same architecture as the PS3/PS4/X360 and Next X.   Multiple cores and programmable shaders.  All modern game engines are based on those 2 facets.   And with UE4 being able to scale games in-engine, ports would be very simple making a ROI very likely even with low sales.

That just doesn't make any sense considering that PS3 and PS4 aren't the same architecture.

PS4 is very much like a PC as it uses x86 architecture. Wii U is much more like a PS3/360 as it is this very custom console design.

THERE IS A REASON UNREAL ENGINE 4 HAS "MINIMUM SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS" AND WHY PS4 IS IN THE MINIMUM RANGE. IF IT IS POSSIBLE TO RUN AN UE4 GAME ON WII U, IT WILL RUN HORRIBLY OR HAVE TO BE SO SCALED DOWN THAT IT IS NO DIFFERENT THAN UE3.

Whoever said the PS4 was the min specs to run UE4?

Especially when UE4 can be used for smartphones and tablets.

It's not the same thing. Unreal Engine 3 is on mobile too right? But you don't see Gears of War on mobile......

The thing with Wii U is that it is way above those mobile requirements but below the console requirements. So its stuck in this awkard middle position.

Let me get this right.   UE4 will be on PC, PS4, Next X, mobile, tabelts and browsers but not Wii U because of some irrational middle range?

There are no handheld/console requirements, hence the term SCALEABLE.

You don't get what I mean by architecture.  I'm referring to the implementation of multiple cores and the use or programmable shaders.    The CPU architecture is irrelevant.

And what minimum requirements are you talking about?  They are no published minimum requirements.  Besides, it's a scalable engine.  We'll see UE4 on cell phones and web browsers.

If UE4 was so scalable like you say, we would be seeing UE4 games on PS3/360. But there's a reason you won't ever see that......it's just not possible.

Are you denying the fact that Wii U doesn't meet the requirements that Epic themselves designed Unreal Engine 4 around?

So why arent we seeing any UE4 games on PS3/360? The engine so SCALEABLE after all lmfao.

Again, this is where it helps to have rad the damn thread.  I already addressed this issue.  Rather than post it again, go read it.

Are you denying UE4 is a scalable game engine?

Actually in the interview, it stated if people wanted to port ue4 to xbox 360/ps3 and wii u that they could. It just wouldn't look anywhere near as good as for pc/ps4/durango.

Yes. Using Gears of War as an example, that game is made to run on Xbox 360 using Unreal Engine 3. If Epic wanted to, I"m sure they could have downported the game to PS2 or Xbox but it doesn't make sense for their vision of the game.(Ignore the fact that Microsoft and Epic had some kind of exclusivity agreement)

Xbox, yes, PS2 no.  Xbox actually used programmable shaders but it was still single core so it would hae had major comaptability issues, not just performance issues.

That's also why the Wii never had UE3.  Single core and fixed function pipeline.

Cutting dat quote tree.

Why aren't we seeing 360/PS3 UE4 games?

UE4 is new tech.

Even Epic, which reveled UE4 thing back in December 2011, won't release the first UE4 game, Fortnite, until later this year (if this year at all).

With the 360/PS3 at the end of their cycle why would a developer push for the engine on them when at the very least it will take 1-2 years to make it.
