Mexican gamer here and no about the US eshop... we get Mexican, over-inflated prices and next to no discounts, ever.

The 3DS is a great gaming platform tho. I haven't cared about gaming consoles in months due to the 3DS greatness :)

That sucks, can't you register your console as a US one? I did that with my Wii so I could get the Club Nintendo rewards.

Nice to see people are happy with their 3DS's, encouraging for me

Hello trestres, i am from Brasil and here we have the same problem with the prices, the Brasil e-shop prices are the same as the stores.

But some niche, low selling or ubisoft games are cheaper than buying in US. For example: Scribblenauts Unlimited, Rayman Origins, LEGO:Lord of the Rings, Code of Princess, Etrian Odyssey IV and a few others.

You can, if you want, set your country to US and this way you have access to the US e-shop, that is what i do to get the free games for nintendo points.

I didnt try to buy games from the US e-shop yet, but many people told me that it is not possible to do it because NOA verifies if the credit card is from US. But it is possible to buy from the Canada e-shop, the prices are similar, the credit card is not verified, but you will have to pay some Canada taxes. I don't know if it is worth it to you because your extra 20%. But here in Brasil is cheaper than buy in stores.

Thanks a lot for the info. I didn't buy anything from the shop channel on the Wii either, just set it ot US to get the Nintendo points as well.
Perhaps then setting it to canada might be the best idea. I will have to check what eShop we get here in Argentina. Buying in stores is definitely a no for me, here it's impossible. A new Wii is still around 300 dollars nowadays. A new 360 around 400 dollars, games over 100 dollars

Thanks for the input :)

Seriously considering a 3DSXL, just so image is larger :P Plus, I still have my Wii and 360, so I won't be missing much. Instead I'll get to play tons of RPGs and other Nintendo Classics, with a bigger VC catalog and more indie games. Believe it or not, I still haven't gamed on a 3DS, but did so many times on a Wii U.

Problem are the prices here, all imported items are sold here at at least 2 times the original price...

Depending on the circumstances then, it might actually make financial sense for you to go digital (if you can stomach that). I don't know what eShop you'd access, but it might be able to pay U.S.-level prices for most of your games, and aside from Nintendo games those seem to be akin to what's available at retail (third-parties set their own prices, and can have their own sales).

Completely forgot about that! That's it I guess, still jobless for a few more weeks, but as soon as I start anew, I will be buying a 3DS. I think LatAm has the US eShop, barring some US exclusive services like Hulu, Amazon Video, or other US only features like spot pass, the rest shall be all available here. I would still pay an extra 20% in each transaction I make though, because my country is close to become another Cuba or Venezuela. We are paying an extra 20% over the original price in any transactions that involve foreign currency if we pay the equivalent in our local currency. And since dollars here are much more valuable than our local currency and we are forbidden to get any foreign currency, I get no option but to pay in local currency the equivalent, plus another 20%, which isn't that bad considering all things.

Good news for me haha, thanks for reminding this to me

Well, i tried that with my Wii U and i wasnt able to... After switching my console to the US zone the e-shop didn't allowed me to login anymore. Apparently Nintendo checks the IP address of your Internet connection to see where are you login from and won't allow you to use Internet features if the IP address doesn't matches with your Wii U settings.

I haven't tried with my 3DS (for the 3DS i prefer to buy cartridges so I can share them with my cousin).. I guess it could be possible and worth a shot. I'll try it one of these days ;)

Oh well, looks like they've rectified that with the Nintendo Network, I will try it at my friend's with the Wii U.
Is it possible to link a paypal account? Or only credit cards??

You should try it with the 3DS, seeing that it´s a more portable device and thought for trips and visits to other places, it might allow you

If Nintendo have any sense they will have a ND before E3, because E3 is going to be all about the new consoles.

I WAS RIGHT!!!!

So a while back I said there would be a ND this week due to the investor's meeting next week. I said it has to cover first party Wii U as there is nothing stated for Q2.

Well when NA and EU NDs were announced for 3DS I was awww as I was only partly right.

But now that the Japan ND has been confirmed and that they ALL will also cover Wii U first party titles... BAM I WAS RIGHT.

I'm pretty sure Nintendo doesn't check IPs but just compares your NNID and console settings. Had the problem myself when changing countries inside of Europe for some strange reason, when I couldn't access the eShop with my Dutch NNID if I set my console to Spanish/Spain (maybe the same thing happens if you change state in the US???). NNIDs are linked to your console SN and country you register, the country can't be changed afterwards... or at least that is what the customer service told me.

Solution: set your console to the country you desire and make a new NNID registered in that country.

Not sure if that is entirely true. In the NA WiiU you can change the zipcode in eShop whenever you want. I'd bet you have a similar option as well.

Well, the country option was greyed out - it wasn't editable. And the BeNeLux (dutch) customer service told me it was impossible to change.
