Though for the record, Sony doesnt give any free games. They let you rent them while you pay their for their service.

They are no more greedy than Sony. Sony just has a different strategy... not as successful.

Yeah, they aren't free. That's why some of us put quotations when we say "free." As Sony should on the PS Store.

It's a bit tricky. They will need to add more value to Live next gen, I'm pretty sure, but openly emulating PS+ wouldn't look all that good and I'm sure Microsoft wants to avoid that image. I think they'll add value little by little rather than turning it into a marketable program like Sony has done.

So my answer is 'yes' but they'll do it over time rather than as a flashy promotion.

Do you think the masses would care if MS just emulated Sony by giving out "free" games? Also, flat out copying the competition hasn't really given Sony a negative image to its fans...

if only the game had those characters shown in the pic but sadly it dosent :(

the worst and flat out obvious rip-off was the move, Playstation allstars was an okay game it only rubbed some nintendo fans the wrong way

No, everyone saw PS All Stars as a pretty blatant rip off. Even Phil Spencer of MS called it a Smash Bros clone.

MSFT already does Free to Play games and they have been highly successful with them. They have hinted at doing this more often so yes they will although they have a different strategy than PS+

Free to play games arent the same thing that the OP is talking about, FTP games exist on all platforms there just a differnt business model that survive by microtransactions, nothing to do with your live fees.

OT: If MS do it, i think they will wait till next gen now, it would be a great selling point to push the new console. But i also think live will be a much differnt beast next gen, with the sub paying towards iptv and other services, which may include some free games, but i think the fee will go towards a much broader set of services not just games.

So paying 50$ a year just to play online is the same as paying 50$ a year to get a ton of free games every month. And yes they are free in a way, just like Netflix lets you watch movies for free as long as you keep a subscription. Considering everything we pay for on Xbox Live we get for free on PS3, I would say MS is far greedier. By the way I pay for Live and PS Plus.

And to answer your question, I don't think so. At least not until Gold subscriptions go down. We may get a few more free arcade titles like Happy Wars down the line.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

Yeah, I think I see your purpose with this thread. No, thanks.

What's the purpose?

In regards to you, you said copying Sony would hurt MS's image but I showed Sony copying Nintendo didn't really hurt their image.

I don't think charging for online services is greedy, especially considering it cost money to offer online services. Frankly, its pretty amazing MS managed to make it a success while the competition is free.

"Considering everything we pay for on Xbox Live we get for free on PS3..." I don't get everything free on the PS3. Basically I just get online play.

They are not free is you pay a subscription fee to access them. No debate, simple as that.

Maybe, though does MS really need to compete ? Any third party (not game development/publishing related) could do a digital rental service (obviously with the consent of the conosle manufacturer).

If PS+ is really is a profitable thing, then I don't see why others won't try to get it on other gaming platforms.
If they don't think it's worth the hassle then there won't be such apps.

I for one don't think that PS+ is a money making machine. They need to give third parties their share for offering games. Since that affects millions of PS+ users, third parties are ruining their potential userbase, so I think the share has to be quite big.
On top of that Sony is offering many of their oldies, thus they are cannibalizing the sales of their own games (where they get the most revenue).

Then there is one big question that remains and that is of great importance. Are PS+ users buying less games than non PS+ users ? (for example waiting for them to arrive on the PS+ service).
If the answer is yes, then I don't think third parties or Sony would be very happy.
