Over the past few months I noticed MS has really stepped up their weekly deals. Probably in effort to compete with services like PS Plus. Those deals aren't limited to paying subscribers either.

MS has shown interest in free games supported by microtransactions. Happy Wars appears to be a success with millions of downloads. Their upcoming MMO looks promising as well.

But is there any chance they'll eventually start giving out "free" games to Gold subscribers? Live is certainly more profitable than PS Plus so they could afford it. But any chance it'll happen in effort to compete? It would certainly quiet down people who say Live isn't worth paying for.

That's a good question. I'd like to see it. Since I'm already paying for the entry fee to my favorite games getting anything more is a bonus. I'll take an added bonus anytime. But if MS does it as an optional paid feature like PS+ I'll pass. I don't need anyone picking out games for me that I might not like.

BTW: If anyone cares there's a XBLA sale going on soon and The Walking Dead is half price. The first episode is free and the rest are 200 MS Points each. The whole season would be $10. It's worth it. I'm still not sure if I'd call it and games like Heavy Rain full on games, but as interactive entertainment you can't go wrong with The Walking Dead for ten bucks.

They give out free things all the time. They are usually new or special games. Lots of free Kinect games, and if you don't like Kinect, to bad, the rest of us will just have fun without you.

And yes, the seem to have stepped up the discounts, and I enjoy it! I have a few in my que I haven't even gotten around to playing yet.



 

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

A lot of people saying "Nay" in the poll.

But I think its possible getting late into the 360's life. When noteworthy online games stop coming to the 360, MS may want to give out games as an incentive to keep subscribers who don't own the 720.

No way. They are far too greedy.

Though for the record, Sony doesnt give any free games. They let you rent them while you pay their for their service.

MSFT already does Free to Play games and they have been highly successful with them. They have hinted at doing this more often so yes they will although they have a different strategy than PS+

It's a bit tricky. They will need to add more value to Live next gen, I'm pretty sure, but openly emulating PS+ wouldn't look all that good and I'm sure Microsoft wants to avoid that image. I think they'll add value little by little rather than turning it into a marketable program like Sony has done.

So my answer is 'yes' but they'll do it over time rather than as a flashy promotion.

Do you think the masses would care if MS just emulated Sony by giving out "free" games? Also, flat out copying the competition hasn't really given Sony a negative image to its fans...
