Forums - General - This is the Real China.

I don't like this sort of thing, where one persons claims (true or not) get used as a generalization, forming a biased outlook.

I'm japanese, the media would have you believe that china and japan hate each other, but despite this every time i have been to china it's been a wonderful experience.

People chiming in with 'lol yeah china is ____' having never actually been there, just need to shut up and stop spouting things they've heard other people say, which in turn probably stemmed from videos such as this.

when the us dollar crashes in 5 years, guess who will be running the world stage.

Not China. Everybody thinks the Chinese are just going to take over the world because they are so wealthy blah blah blah. The Chinese are still incredibly poor.

Money can't buy happiness. Just video games, which make me happy.

so sad thinking that they have the chance to rule the world officially - they already do as his prime minister said!

It's just that a lot of western prisons are super comfy.. people shouldn't think prison is a nice place.. and were is the story of the man that died? maybe they got into argument before? maybe he was involved with the chinese mafia and they send thugs after him? Just because he has access to youtube doesn't mean this is the "real" China.. I have worked many times in china with no problems at all..

Yeah, that was a bit strange in this story. First he tells he was punched and attacked with a hard wooden chair and all of a sudden one of the thugs just died from a bleeding in the brain and that's that, then it's all about cockroaches, forced labor and sleeping in feces.

At least, there is no racism in China. Human right? Why don't you America/Japanese/Europeanese think about what you did to Africa people in the past?

Stupid, so stupid..

I love many things about China but that just isn't true.  Maybe a Han Chinese person experiences no racism in China but I've personally seen overt racism towards minority groups in China as well as foreigners. Some nationalities get treated very favourably, others, like some of my friends from Ghana and Cameroon, not so well.  Not to mention I very quickly learned some not so nice Chinese words for foreigners because you can hear every time you go out in public.

Again, on balance, I don't think it's a big issue there, it's more based on fear of the unfamiliar and it was rarely (but not never) aggressive.  I would say though China has barely had the opportunity to be racist yet, I have never been to any other country where the number of outsiders is so staggeringly low.  I lived in a city of 2 million people and there were usually less than 20 non-Chinese in the city at any one time. I suspect Chinese people will adapt but if not,  it could become a bigger issue as more and more non-Chinese start working and settling in China.

for me it's the amount of people on such a small space.. it can be pretty hectic.

Ah yeah, I suppose that was fcking annoying when I first moved out here. Forget to even notice it, nowadays.

When I get back to the UK, if London doesn't feel like Mong Kok, I'm going to decree it's not really a city at all.

For those who don't know what MK looks like. It's like this. 24 hours a day. 7 days a week. 52 weeks a year. (Actually, that's a lie, it's even busier over the lunar new year)

You're also missing out the massively obvious one... Japanese.

Although this is understandable, as the schools maintain an extremely strong anti-Japanese education, mainly to distract attentions from the actions of China's own Government.

Doesn't the  Cantonese word   Gweilo which everyone uses for a western foreigner mean "evil devil"

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

Self defense or not, he killed a man. Very few people get of for self defense if someone ends up dead.. Sucks it just happen to be in China. He most likely would have served time in the states if that happened here.

And damn how hard do you have to hit someone for their brain to bleed, he must have went ham on that guy.

Friends of mine went on holiday for a month to China a couple of years ago. Nothing but praise from them for the people living there, they had no problems. I would love to visit myself if it wasn't so far away.

I loved watching Paul Merton in China, and I'm currently watching Wild China. An amazing country.

Anyway those who live in glass houses should not throw stones. Look up the story of Maher Arar before condemning another country.
