That is so unfortunate.......

While that does sounds terribly horrible, I don't feel bad for the people WHO actually committed atrocious crimes such as murder, rape, etc. Those actual criminal can rot in those hell holes for all I care. For self-defense, he certainly did not deserve that and it is baffling that it happened.

HOWEVER, this video and website were probably made to get some attention on his book. Nevertheless, i can't imagine what this man went through and the time he lost, specially with his mother. Governments are run by soulless people, that is all i am seeing/hearing about recently. Also, as one of the poster here said, don't condemn the country so quickly. There are good people in that country, which is being brought down by (to the best of my knowledge) its own goverment and the power it imposes on people.

It's kind funny how he listed No Religion and made it seemed like it's a bad thing as I think that's the smartest policy ever, and expected life to be worth more in a country of 1.3 billion people. I mean, sure, it sucks that happened, but don't list bullshit or obvious shit into the equation to try to get more supporters just because you got unlucky.

Also, racism exists anywhere, you think Chinese people are not racist? I've sure as hell met plenty, but racism is a lot of times taken out of context especially in a country like the USA. You think the Chinese people don't remember http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eight-Nation_Alliance or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nanking_Massacre ? To this fucking day, western people still think the eight nation alliance was made to save the few, when in reality, they all wanted a piece of the pie once Japan began their invasions in Asia and they used religion, once again, as an excuse to reap the benefits, and lets not forget all the fucked up shit Japan did in Asia. To this very day, Japanese public official denies that massacre happened and many other things they did when we have FUCKING PICTURES! How do you figure people are not racist after all that shit? Why do you think black people can be so hostile toward white people in the US sometimes? They have shit like that in Europe too with different countries, go figure.

My Chinese-American friends always tell me to not travel to China because it's not so great there. They don't really enjoy visiting their families back there either.

That being said, I'm sure it all comes down to which area of China you visit and what kind of experience you're expecting.

Who is behind this false propaganda? Tragedy can come across anybody anywhere.
And why is he writing on the paper like some advertisement, he would've talked, it could've been more convincing.
I lived there for 3 years, I find Chinese people really peaceful and loving.

The attack could have happened anywhere, but what happend after that doesn't. What makes his story so bad is that he was convicted for self defense and then thrown in a hell hole of a prison for 4 years. He isn't criticizing the Chinese people. He is criticizing the Chinese legal system and government as well as the lack of support from his own government.

Seems like China is a economic powerhouse but still has a lot of 3rd world problems going on

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Apparently, in response to him being attacked, he killed one of the attackers, and got charged with willful intent to cause harm. This is is what got him in trouble. In addition, he got stuck with a fine that he had to pay the family of the person he killed. He didn't get to is, so the courts raised the fine to around $100,000.

Have to wonder, in nations like China, if not turning the other cheek is a smart idea.

In the ancient old days, if you stole from somebody, your hands were chopped off then they tossed you in the streets. In a country full of Chinese people where a white person killed a Chinese person? He's lucky he only got 4-5 years, because it could have been worse, like death by rocks and boulders or straight up execution without blind folds. I'd say China has become much more civil these days compared to way way back. Who the hell does he think he is that a country as powerless on military as Canada would help him get out? Every life has a price, and when you are in China, life is dirt cheap unless you are the Canadian Prime Minister.
