The New Fire Emblem is amazing. Though somewhat different from other SRPGS. Depending how far back your willing to go really will depend though outside that, for there are tons of good SRPG games, mostly PS1/PS2 in english.

Id be interested in hearing any for PS1/PS2. Though Im trying to stay closer to PS3 or PSP just because it would be easyer to find the games. Is Fire Emblem really that good? Seems like everyone is suggesting that.

Azure dreams for PS1. play it, now.. (or check some video, if there are none give me a shout and i'll capture some gameplay when i get home)

Azure dreams for PS1. love that game, pokémon on crack.
It is turned based in the same way as chocobos dungeon. each move/action you make, the enemy takes one turn.

Il put it in the list to do some research on. Thanks

Fire Emblem is a bit different then your average SRPG, but i'll put it this way... there are like... 10-12 Fire Emblem games dating back to the original NES.   So it's a good concept and really this Fire Emblem: Awakening is probably without a doubt a best. It looks like your sticking to Sony consoles though so you'd be out of luck.

Essentially Fire Emblem defined SRPGs for a while, then Tactics Ogre came and changed the genre.

Depending on how you feel about grinding you may want to try a NIS game.  People can spend thousands of hours in those games with how ridiculious you can get with the grinding.  Disgaea being the principle series for that (which is on both PS3 and PSP.)   Maybe go with a PSP version for cheaper since they are love it or hate it type games, since they sort of play loose with the battle and strategy.  Personally I like Phantom brave best but pretty much everybody else thinks it's the worst one.   Largely it's a disagreement about the chief mechanic.  In that game your troops are spirits who manifest in objects, different items you put them in change their stats.  The problem is... you can only use the units for a certain amount of turns before they poof back into the other world.   So that puts in extra layers of strategy.

Personally the Front Mission series I recommend higher then anything, s FM3 is what redeemed the PS1 after the game i bought it for ended up sucking.   Front Mission 1.

Front Mission 1 got a PSP Remake, while Front Mission 3 is in the Playstation Store.   Main difference is that the PS1 version has more characters on screen at once, while the PS3 version limits you to a squad of 4 with smaller terrains. (which I actually prefer but other fans like Badgenome prefer 1.)

The new X-com, X-Com Enemy Unknown is fantastic.  Though a bit different for most SRPG fans since it's gun based and there are all kinds of other choices to be made.

Although it's radially different you might want to play Ogre Battle as it will give you a bit more info about Tactics Ogre with Lans Hamilton and the other Zenobians debuting in that game.  (and Ogre Battle 64 if you liked that, but once again that's NES only.)  If you end up both liking NIS games and this Soul Nomad and the World Eaters is a combination of the two types of game.

On the "Stuff you've already played" front the Final Fantasy Tactics Advance games for GBA are just like FFT but way better balanced.  They get hit for having less "mature" stories, but despite being less mature they're better told.  Sometimes people also dislike the laws system because you need to have a diverse party rather then a party of nothing but one or two overpowered units.

Also Tactics Ogre Advance... which, honestly I wasn't a big fan of.

Shining Force were great Gensis SRPGs that you can get on pretty much any system in various Gensis Collections, though it's more along the Fire Emblem style of SRPG.

Avoid Stella Dues and Hoshigami: Ruining Blue Earth at all costs

Fallout 1 & Fallout 2 are essentially turn based strategy games where you play 1 character with tons of rpg elements... will run on pretty mucn any PC and are available new still today.  Battle for Wesnoth campaigns also can run on pretty much any PC and can be fun... though very simple on the rpg side.

Dungeons and Dragons tactics you can get on PSP, it's somewhat subpar but fun... and if you find it pretty fun you might look into getting together a D&D game... which is essentially a tabletop SRPG.

Gladius can be found on PS2/Xbox/Gamecube and is a lot of fun, set in a Roman/Norse type setting which if all kinds of fun.

The rest i've played have been forgetable, but not bad.

Thanks for the insight. Yeah I don't own many consoles besides Sony, though i've been thinking about getting a WII and/or 3ds. So your thoughts on Fire Emblem are helpful. XCOM EU looks fun, il have to try a demo. Recently I've been trying to get back to playing RPGs and SRPGs, it seems NIS and Atlus seem to be the leaders in RPGs now days, any advice on some good RPGs. The last one I played was FF XIII and I really disliked it. Ni No Kuni?

If you have a Android smartphone Chaos Rings and Chaos Rings Omega..
and if you have an iPhone add Chaos Rings 2..

best classical jrpg this gen..

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

Ni No Kuni I just started but i like it so far.  My girlfriend got it for me along with Fire Emblem... and i've been putting more time to FE.

The only thing is, the story IS about a little kid and his journey and such.  So if your adverse to "kiddy stories" and the like, I'm not sure i'd recommend it.

I really don't have any regular RPG reccomendations for this gen honestly.  It just felt like a sort of RPG deadzone for whatever reason.   Persona Series is great though and can be had on PS2 or PSP in different versions.

Based on your games listed, it looks like you are looking for strategy RPGs? Here's a few series:
Valkyria Chronicles
Fire Emblem
Disgaea
Summon Night
Legend of Heroes (sort of hybrid)
Agarest War
Super Robot Wars

Only tried Valkyria Chronicles out of all these, its a sensational game! Perfect strategy/RPG hybrid!

I think it would of been if it didn't allow units to take 3-4-5 moves the same turn.  That realy took too much challenge and too much strategy OUT of the game generally took a focus away from intellegent group formations and positioning.

I kind of agree but for most missions the action points are fairly limited no matter your team layout and the Scout is the only unit that can truly move very far in one round and they have very limited offesnsive capability.

Overall, I agree though, it would have forced players to adopt more tactical approaches and one would avoid the list-filler members you always assign just in case.

the demo for Xcom is aweful. I hated the demo. I understand a demos hould be indicative, but the demo sucks.
