They are talking about PSN games for PS3 or about PS1 classics? Because I can redownload PS1 classics on Vita, but PSN games wouldn't be possible since they are PS3 games, even on PS4.

I think its more people making a big deal to Sony not because someone else is or isn't, but because Sony made a huge deal out of it in the past.
Back during PS2 they talked huge shit about being backwards compatable and dissed Nintendo huge for not being. So it's kind of a taste of their own medicine.
so the vita isn't going to be used with the PS4?

Since when does the 360 run on IBM achitecture. IBM created the Cell for the PS3. The 360 runs on AMD/ATI architecture. |
Xbox 360 processor is PowePC. It's made by IBM and use some tech similar to Cell. The only way they can add BC is putting an entire 360 processor on 720, because emulation won't be possible because of the raw power of the 360.
Sad to hear it dosen't transfer.
I'm not a big fan of this Gekai thing anyway. I want to own the games, not be renting them. Heck half the movies I own are probably on netflix and i pay for that. but someday I won't be doing netflix and there goes my whole library if I relied on them. Whether i quit paying to cut costs in house or netflix goes under.
Just look at the music business. Itunes is hugely successful, yet the streaming sites where you pay monthly and can listen to basically every song ever made are not so popular.
Why is that? The monthly paying seems like it would be a better deal, you get a bigger library. But people like to own things, and also not be adding another monthly bill to their expenses.
A little disappointing but, I guess it means there will still be a reason to own a PS3.

via Virtual Console at some point, yes. Difference is game is downloaded to console and not dependent on internet connect. See Onlive for where I'm headed with this... |
That's one difference. I'd say the larger one is that any PS123 games you play on Gaikai you're almost certainly going to need to purchase again (with the possible exception of games bought on PSN). There's just no way Sony is going to let you pop in a PS2 disc and start playing on Gaikai.

Well, hopefully they do it like Nintendo is doing WiiU VC for those who want to "upgrade" their current library. Basically, its really cheap. $1 as compared to $5 for NES games and so on.
Unsurprising. It still troubles me why they don't just release another model, or even just an add-on or something, with a cell processor so you have the *option* of buying a backwards compatible console if you want. I suppose it does drive down perception of the console if people believed that it was that price baseline (which it obviously wouldn't be).
More pressure on them to have a good launch, with a continuous stream of games after launch to keep people busy with. Seeing how both Vita & Wii-U have completely failed on this front recently, it's not looking promising.
Personally, doesn't bother me. I have a PS2, PS3, Gamecube & Wii set up in my room at the minute. I have space for another. But I can see why it would be a turn off for some.

yeah I wouldn't have transfered all my stuff over to PS4 anyway unless it had had BC with my discs too. Now that I know it won't (unless they come out with some add-on) I'll keep my PS3 in some other room or in the corner (forever alone) and go back to it if I ever get a hankering for some retro gaming considering I have all my PS1, PS2, and PS3 games on it digitally or through HD collections.
