even though with PS3 retail games was obvious, I thought that maybe with PSN games it would be different considering they are smaller. I really dont care about this because I only have like 10 PSN games in total; but I think M$ can take some advantage because of this with their nextbox.

EDIT: I think it will be the same case with PS1 classics on the PSVITA.   That it was required that the game per-se to have some kind of emulation in order to be played in the device.  I think this kind of thing will happen with the most successful PSN releases firsts, and then it will begin spread into the other titles.   And if you already bought it, you will be able to download it again on your PS4 once it is ready.

These are smaller games that does not use the whole complex PS3 environment in order to be playable so, I think emulation will be an option for these games.

I'm keeping a PS3 for this very reason but I hope some of the PSN games get compatibility on PS4. Eventually Gaikai will let you play PS1 PS2 and PS3 games from anything. The Cell/RSX is preventing on system BC, honestly the added cost and size you would be better off buying a PS3 anyway. Next Gen looks much brighter anyway.



Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

I have a lot of PSN games purchased along with a lot of PS3 ones from PSN+....now I will have to keep my PS3 just to play those....that kind of sucks :(  I was going to use the money from selling my PS3 to help pay for the PS4...

It is not to do with online infrastructure, it is to do with the radical change in architecture and lack of emulation. I can agree that it is probably just them being greedy wrt PS1 and PS2 games, but other than that it is fine.

Worst comes to worst, I will just have to keep my PS3 plugged in for FIFA. But anyway, living in the UK means that it will inevitably be late, so I will have more games to play at launch

I hear what you're saying and while options for backwards compatibility may be there on PS4, they won't be convenient as they should be. I've played around with Online streaming and it's not something I'm too impressed with. There is always slight input lag and visuals adjust up and down on the fly depending on bandwith.

Also it may be just me and my years of playing videogames, but at this point I get as much joy replaying old games as playing new ones. 

If Microsoft comes out and says...all Xbox 1 and 360 games compatible, and in 1080p... I will be very happy and probably replay dozens of old games.

If they don't have it on Microsofts side, it will really hurt their Xbox live ecosystem because people paid since day 1 to be part of it. Imagine iPad 5 doesn't work with any iOS apps because they changed to x86 CPU. That wouldn't fly at all.

Fair enough. I guess it interests you more than me. I don't think I would ever want to actually play through a whole game, I haven't really done that at all this gen apart from some HD collections.

Anyway, I still have my PS2 and all those games if I do really want to replay them, but yes, that is nowhere near convenient

I suppose it will be something that annoys some, but I am perfectly non-plused by it

they may do that.  They have a record of your puchase on your account, so they will know what you're allowed to download for free pretty easily.  I wasn't gonna transfer them over anyway cause I want my space reserved for PS4 stuff on my HDD

At least it doesn't need to be always online to play games and you can play used games.
I would rather have these than BC.

For me the convenience of BC is only acceptable on handheld space. I don't want to carry my DS and my 3DS when I am away at home.

That is one of the biggest cons of Vita.

Only have 5 psn games anyway (RE2, RE Umbrella chronicles, RE Darkside chronicles, House of The Dead 3 & 4)

But after hearing this news theres no way i will invest another penny on psn for ps3.
