What exactly would be daring to you? And what could they possibly do, daringly, that would add more to gaming than what they are already going to do?

lol i'm guessing strapping a tablet to the controller

Ugh. Probably. The exact thing that would guarantee I would not buy it.

I'm ok with having to buy a peripheral for that kinda thing, especially a high powered one like say the PSV that lets you play every single game on it. But no way do I want it to be the _main_ way to play games on the console. The main way to play PS4 games is almost exactly the same way we currently play PS3 games. Minor updates, and that's exactly what I want.

same here... to those who like it more power to them... but having a second screen to focus on makes no sense at all to me

now the sharing features like video and screen shot sharing and upload are far more appealing to me

I was ultra hyped for Killzone and the specs.

The rest was pretty meh overall but thats because the big reveals will be at E3

i was underwhelmed. I had to quite because it got really boring. So basically we have a ps3 with cloud integration and better graphics.

Pretty much sums it up. The only interesting thing was the cloud streaming service, but they hardly wanted to talk about it.

I was honestly hoping that Sony was getting desperate enough as a company to do something daring. All they're doing is adding even more PC into the mix.

But hey, looks like that's exactly what third parties want, so... Yay?

The only interesting things happening in gaming right now are changing interfaces and changing distribution. Bolting a trackpad onto the dual shock is the lamest "innovation" in interface since Donkey Kong bongos. Making a full commitment to Move would have been more daring, designing something new would have been fantastic.

For distribution, they tease the cloud, but offer no details whatsoever on what it can do, what it can't do, or what the terms are. They just say that there will be games on it at some point. Nice to know. If they were really going to do something exciting, I think they'd be talking about it more, so I expect this to basically be Playstation OnLive. The are good reasons why OnLive collapsed.

It was a nice show. I liked the whole atmosphere of it. Games look good too, but my jaw did'nt drop. It was'nt like OMG Nintendo is D00mZ0rs or anything.

But what did strike me more than anything else was the really good specs combined with the 8 gig of GDDR5 ram. Knowing how much GDDR 5 ram cost, I reckon Sony is once again gonna lose a shitload of money if they go for a $499 pricepoint.

If the PS4 is DOA like PSVita, then it's pretty much game over for that company.

Well here it depends on your definition of good innovation. I think a trackpad is the next logical step that could greatly enhance additional controls. I also think that a touchscreen, like that on the WiiU gamepad, is quite possibly the most expensive blunder of a controller since the Atari Jaguar's  15+ button Controller. It just doesn't even make sense.

They could not make a _full_ commitment to Move without basically throwing nearly ALL their current gamers out the window. We _don't_ want the move as the primary controller. Instead they did the smartest move they could. They integrated some of the Move functionality to enhance the DS4 at next to no additional cost.

OnLive collapsed because of many things, almost none of which apply here. We know we will eventually get PS1/2/3 games on PSN/Gaikai. They did talk about it plenty, some people were just not paying attention. We will know more at E3. They only had 2 hours to talk.

I was very underwhelmed based on all the hype the fans boys were giving it...it's going to be the biggest announcement of the 21st century....Fan boys....what ya going to do...
Overall, I felt very underwhelmed as there wasn't nearly enough information and by the fact that my 1 1/2 year old PC is specked higher....  In the end, it's all about the games.  We'll have to wait and see how they do there.  Hopefully better than this gen.

Go and look at Sony or Microsofts first conference showing off their PS3 or 360.  Or gameplay of launch games.

everyone should have expected the games to be basically PS3 games.  In 7 years the difference between ps3 and ps4 will be noticable without a second glance, but right now it won't be.

Difference being, those conferences weren't hyped to the ends of the earth like this was. Those conferences happened when they should have which was at E3 when the hype is reasonable. There was no real reason for the hype today since nothing really crazy or mindblowing was shown or even hinted at. It was basically, here's the specs, here's a general idea of what it can do, here's some games that may come eventually and that's it.

That could have easily waited for E3 unless they're trying to push hard for a Q4 release then it's understandable. Otherwise, it really didn't make sense to use those reasources for a conference of this magnitude. A simple Nintendo Direct type conference could have done the same thing with way less of a budget.

Well I figured it was due to their financials.  I mean it was like a couple days after their financials came out that they announced this and been hyping it since.  As you could tell while watching this, this conference was only half for gamers, the other half was for investors and what not to watch and be like "hmm yea, that company is working on something that could make money"

I agree they shouldn't have hyped it as much, but I do like how they had a conference pre-E3.  imagine E3 comes along and you have to showcase a new system.  That takes practicall your entire showroom floor time.  They now have the more base stuff out of the way and for E3 they can just showcase more on games and th neat ways they utilized these features they described today.

I was just happy that they announced the PS4, but why is Beyond: Two Souls listed as a PS4 game?

I dunno what to make of PS4 yet, it's giving us a better launch then PS3 had, and showing promise, but I won't get a PS4 for sequels, especially when the games really don't look that much better then PS3 games. Going to need a Gran Turismo to convince me otherwise, I seem to buy every Sony console I own when they announce/release Gran Turismo.
