Forums - Sony - Was anybody else underwhelmed by the PS4 event?

I would say the presentation was fine. Nothing more and nothing less. The announcement of the console was crucial which was backed with a couple of exclusives and tech demo. This was exactly in line with what I was actually expecting. The memory spec was indeed a surprise, the jump to 8GB has turned out to be a fair game. However the pricing for final SKU should be limited to $399-$429 maximum. It's upto Microsoft to decide on any improvements they can come up with their hardware. Now what matters is the final pricing of their hardware. E3 is where I would be expecting tons of surprises and I'm sure everyone else who has been underwhelmed will be in for a treat on a bigger stage.

All was going fine and awesome and then, they finish without a Harlem Shake? Whats up with that?

Proudest Platinums - BF: Bad Company, Killzone 2 , Battlefield 3 and GTA4

I think it is great that we got system specs.

Just by the virtue of that it can't be underwhelming because I didn't expect it.

It was meh. If you told me Second Son was a PS3 title, I'd be a little surprised, but I'd believe you. I'm sure if I looked at Infamous 2 and 3 back to back, I'd notice the difference a bit more, but it's still hardly mindblowing. Killzone was a little more impressive. Knack was interesting, but it seemed confused. The art style seemed at odds with the gravitas they were trying to convey. Watchdogs was cool, but I already have 2 different consoles that will play that. Media Molecule's thing was the coolest, although I'd like to see it in a more concrete form before getting too excited.

Controller is half assed. It's like the Wiimote/Sixaxis thing. Sony realizes the value of touch control but didn't want to go all the way with it. It's a compromise that will mean nothing for gameplay. Good for navigation I guess.

The streaming capabilities are the coolest feature. Instant demos is a nice feature, and being able to watch other people's gameplay footage is pretty cool. Overall the social features seem like Miiverse, but targeted to a more hardcore audience. Cool stuff. Has an advantage over Miiverse in some respects and disadvantages in other.

Other than that... don't know if anything really excites me too much. If you're a Sony fan, I'm sure you'll be stoked to play first party games, but for someone with only a mild liking of Sony first party stuff, I don't see much of a reason to plunk down money for this. My mind is very much not blown.

I'm I the only one who noticed that when the Killzone demo became playable the whole city was hidden behind smoke.

Might have something to do with the massive explosion... just an idea.. >_>

Also @ WiiMusic commenters - I'm failing to see how demonstrating the ability to craft your own 3d characters then mess about with them in realtime is akin to nintendos wii music, it was just an evolved form of the dancing many people who have played LBP/LBP2 do with their sackboys - only on a much more creative level.

But hey, i guess the haters gotta hate on something.

Also, i'm personally loving people basing their negative opinions of the graphics on sub-hd streams.

I thought it was alright. I would say that they made enough of a splash to make a conference like this matter. I would give it a 7/10 but I can image all the people with Kaz on their avatar gave this confernce a -1/10.

i was underwhelmed. I had to quite because it got really boring. So basically we have a ps3 with cloud integration and better graphics.

Pretty much sums it up. The only interesting thing was the cloud streaming service, but they hardly wanted to talk about it.

I was honestly hoping that Sony was getting desperate enough as a company to do something daring. All they're doing is adding even more PC into the mix.

But hey, looks like that's exactly what third parties want, so... Yay?

What exactly would be daring to you? And what could they possibly do, daringly, that would add more to gaming than what they are already going to do?

lol i'm guessing strapping a tablet to the controller

I just felt, it was a waste of hype to show engines and games that don't really seem like next gen (at least what people were expecting to see as next gen?). The general consensus during the stream was, "this is so much like PS3." and "omg more generic games". Granted, they could be from Nintendo/Microsoft fans but it's still pretty indicative of how things might be this gen. The graphical jump seems like it won't be too drastic until devs really dig into the hardware but the hardware is really good.

Hopefully, Sony can pull a 180 at E3 because they have good hardware doing pretty cool things. They just need the software now to back it up (and throw some bones at Vita so, this can benefit twice as much).

Go and look at Sony or Microsofts first conference showing off their PS3 or 360.  Or gameplay of launch games.

everyone should have expected the games to be basically PS3 games.  In 7 years the difference between ps3 and ps4 will be noticable without a second glance, but right now it won't be.

It was ok for me. Personally the only thing I really really like was Killzone, the rest was 'just good' for me. The Knack game looks kinda cool though. Don't really care about all this cloud things since I will probably never going to use them, but I can see how some people will find it useful.

In terms of graphics shown it was 'meh' for me. Killzone looks really great for consoles but it kinda reminds me of Crysis 2 on ultra settings. This is by no means a bad thing since if launch games look like this then later ones will be amazing.

And lol @ Square, the biggest trolls in gaming history.

Ugh. Probably. The exact thing that would guarantee I would not buy it.

I'm ok with having to buy a peripheral for that kinda thing, especially a high powered one like say the PSV that lets you play every single game on it. But no way do I want it to be the _main_ way to play games on the console. The main way to play PS4 games is almost exactly the same way we currently play PS3 games. Minor updates, and that's exactly what I want.
