Forums - Gaming - Iwata: Cloud gaming not the future

Seems pretty obvious. You can't play games on a cloud, too moist and high up. Why is this news?

Currently own:

  • Ps4

Currently playing: Witcher 3, Walking Dead S1/2, GTA5, Dying Light, Tomb Raider Remaster, MGS Ground Zeros

I don't see a problem in this. Iwata sees that there are advantages to it, but there are these so called disadvantages too. It's not like he hates Cloud Gaming and wants it to die in a ditch, he just doesn't see it as the future, which isn't a bad thing.

Nice one :D

On a more serious note though, I believe Iwata. Cloud gaming is like gambling. If something should happend to the company that does this cloud, your screwed! You could loose a lot of money, and maybe also artificial value, like pictures and movies and so on.

Lol Iwata. He will eat those words once Gaikai can stream 1080p games on PS4. It will become a huge part of next gen.

He also said he didn't like the current online platforms or something, thats why WiiU lacks achieve/trophy system.

I think that cloud gaming will wipe all dedicated console-like hardware from existence in not so distant future. Where I see potential for new gaming hardware is volumetric display table-top consoles, but that's not gonna happen anytime soon unfortunately.

He will eat that words in 10yrs when more than like 5% of all households have a sufficent connection for FullHD streaming

Where did he say that? Him and Miyamoto only said that they needed to change the enviroment for the 3DS and Wii U.

Well personally I dont care for trophies and achievements. I've tried cloud gaming and it worked fine for a short while on my crappy 8Mb broadband, and it eventually became unplayable. I can see a brighter future for cloud gaming once super fast broadband is the norm. I just wish Iwata would stop saying things like that.

Cloud gaming is clearly the future. Look at how successful OnLive became.

Full fledged Cloud gaming is still bit far away but i do like the small enhancements it does provide currently. The cloud saves on steam and ps + are pretty welcome additions. I doubt they could do cloud streaming well for ps3 games on ps4 but ps1/2 games might be fair game.

So yea we are atleast a generation away.
