It's not just about hardware. Nintendo didn't do so well in the Software department other than the usual games that they release like Mario and Zelda. They need to be more developer friendly so people will start to make third party games on their consoles, something that the Wii U is lacking at the moment.

I'm pretty sure he was. Then again, the GameCube was quite a good console despite it's major sales failure.

In times of the Wii I would have agreed 100% with you, but the 3rd party aspect seems to improve. At least the smaller e-shop developers seem to be satisfied with Nintendo's support.

I suggest you take a look at the top 20 best selling games of all time, you'll find a disproportionate amount of Wii games in there.
Iwata is running the company into the ground. He needs a replacement immediately.
