3DS had the weakest launch in terms of day one software of any Nintendo system. Seriously, looking back at it, it's a joke.

Really the only thing that saved the 3ds from becoming the Vita was that massive price cut.

I disagree.  The price-cut gave the 3DS a temporary boost, but without the release of the Mario Kart and 3D Mario game, the 3DS remained at a relatively low sales-rate.  The 3DS before the price cut was doing better than the Vita was doing anyway.  So it's a combination of several things, including the price-cut and game releases, that helped the 3DS to come to a full recovery.

Awesome. Saved the pic. Certainly puts things into perspective. Didn't know that NES launched with all the major games i put some much time into. The names were so simple. That tennis game got me into well tennis.

I couldn't agree more. It was well needed. They should have waited 'til the big games were done. Just like the Wii U, but even worse.

Have and love them all. Except the Virtual Boy. Nintendo was smoking freaking crack with that thing.

This is great friend! I have the full NES launch black box collection. I love that black box art so much :)

The fact is that the Wii U has a weak software launch in the fact that the only games that really show off the hardware's potential exclusively are a port of a year old game (Arkham City), a difficult rogue like zombie FPS (ZombiU) and a mini game collection (Nintendo Land).

The average person is probably already confused by the name and similar console design, Nintendo failed to release the software necessary to prove that the Wii U is not just a HD Wii and that gamers are going to get new experiences with it.

NES had Super Mario Bros and Duck Hunt with the NES zapper.

SNES had Super Mario World and various Mode 7 games.

N64 had the revolution that was Super Mario 64 and polygon gaming at a higher level.

GC at least had Smash Bros Melee released a few months into its life cycle along with the graphical powerhouse that was Rogue Leader.

Wii had the motion controls that changed how many of us can play our games via a family friendly party game in Wii Sports and a brand new Zelda game.

Wii U has nothing to compare to those launches, Call of Duty is available for all other systems, while graphically superior on the Wii U it isn't by much. ZombiU has potential but it is a difficult game for some today's gamer who are used to finding their challenge via online matches not actual single player game play. Literally the eShop has been the best thing about the Wii U software wise due to the various games available and even those aren't all exclusive to the system. We are waiting on a updated release to Monster Hunter 3 at this point as the next big retail release.

Nintendo may well have rushed the Wii U due to how badly the Wii dropped off in software support but the lack of solid software to bolster the system is what is hurting it right now.Especially compared to other consoles they have had outside of Virtual Boy.

SSBM literally came out 2 weeks later. If that.

The story this doesnt tell is that Nintendo was late for every single gen until this one (i'm not sure about the NES generation).

Its the first time nintendo is the first one out of the gate.

doesn't really matter if NES was late to the party, cause it save the industry.

OT: great find. brings back loads of memories.

What this image doesn't show is the competitions offerings at the time of the Nintendo launch's.
