The fact is that the Wii U has a weak software launch in the fact that the only games that really show off the hardware's potential exclusively are a port of a year old game (Arkham City), a difficult rogue like zombie FPS (ZombiU) and a mini game collection (Nintendo Land).
The average person is probably already confused by the name and similar console design, Nintendo failed to release the software necessary to prove that the Wii U is not just a HD Wii and that gamers are going to get new experiences with it.
NES had Super Mario Bros and Duck Hunt with the NES zapper.
SNES had Super Mario World and various Mode 7 games.
N64 had the revolution that was Super Mario 64 and polygon gaming at a higher level.
GC at least had Smash Bros Melee released a few months into its life cycle along with the graphical powerhouse that was Rogue Leader.
Wii had the motion controls that changed how many of us can play our games via a family friendly party game in Wii Sports and a brand new Zelda game.
Wii U has nothing to compare to those launches, Call of Duty is available for all other systems, while graphically superior on the Wii U it isn't by much. ZombiU has potential but it is a difficult game for some today's gamer who are used to finding their challenge via online matches not actual single player game play. Literally the eShop has been the best thing about the Wii U software wise due to the various games available and even those aren't all exclusive to the system. We are waiting on a updated release to Monster Hunter 3 at this point as the next big retail release.
Nintendo may well have rushed the Wii U due to how badly the Wii dropped off in software support but the lack of solid software to bolster the system is what is hurting it right now.Especially compared to other consoles they have had outside of Virtual Boy.
